Now over halfway through the season, one may expect the AFLW ladder to have some separation in it. However, midway through round six that is not the case as five teams at the top are separated by two points with Adelaide, Hawthorn, and Fremantle all picking up wins.

Fremantle Takes Down Geelong
The first matchup of round six saw Fremantle taking on Geelong.
Geelong shockingly held Fremantle scoreless through the first quarter and a half of the matchup as they lead 12-0.
Tunisha Kikoak ended the scoreless drought for the Dockers to put them on the board for six and shortly after Hayley Miller put through another goal to tie the match. The two sides eventually would go to halftime with Geelong leading 19-18.
However, Fremantle allowed just one point in quarter number three while putting through 18 of their own to take a commanding 36-20 lead and eventually cruising to a 45-27 win.
With the win the Dockers moved to fifth on the ladder, tied with three of the teams in front of them on 20 points.
Hawthorn Beats Gold Coast
It was then Hawthorn’s turn to take care of business against a Gold Coast team that sits at the very bottom of the ladder.
Gold Coast put through a goal early and fended off the Hawks for the next ten minutes only allowing two behinds, but eventually the floodgates opened.
Hawthorn scored two goals in just a minute of play to take a 14-6 lead which they carried into the second quarter.
They stretched the lead to 25-6 at halftime and despite a valiant comeback attempt by Gold Coast, Hawthorn did what they had to in the fourth en route to a 35-22 win.
Hawthorn now sits second on the ladder.
Essendon Keeps Finals Hopes Alive
Essendon took down Sydney 27-24 in what was a massive game for their finals hopes.
The first quarter ended at 1-1 before the scoring erupted in the second, specifically for Essendon.
They put through three goals and a behind to take a commanding 20-2 lead into the locker room.
They held their lead through the third quarter and looked as if they would cruise to victory before Sydney came storming back.
Down 27-9 going into the fourth, the Swans blanked Essendon, while putting up 15 points of their own to move within three but as time ran out, they were unable to find the final goal to win the match.
As such, Essendon is now ninth on the ladder, tied on points with St. Kilda in the eighth spot.
Adelaide Narrowly Beats St. Kilda
The Adelaide and St. Kilda match was close throughout.
The teams exchanged goals and behinds in the opening quarter and Adelaide led 8-7 heading into the second.
The Crows stretched that lead to 16-9 by the end of the half but couldn’t put St. Kilda away. At the end of a slow third quarter, the team’s exchanged goals as Adelaide led 22-16 heading into the final frame.
After an Adelaide behind, St. Kilda put through a goal to cut the lead to one, but it was as close as they could get as the Crows scored three more behinds to take the match 26-22.
With the win Adelaide now sits at 20 points on the year, good for third on the ladder.
Melbourne Handles GWS
In a battle of two sides who are well on the outside of the finals battle, Melbourne took down GWS with ease.
They led from start to finish and despite a late fourth quarter comeback of sorts from GWS, the game was never in doubt as Melbourne won it 41-25.
Week six of the AFLW season is underway and the results are shaking up the ladder. All three of Hawthorn, Adelaide and Fremantle now sit on 20 points, alongside Brisbane in the 2-5 spots on the ladder while Essendon is now tied with St. Kilda for the eight spot.
