Carlos Alcaraz headlines the opening day of Wimbledon 2024!
Some of the sport’s biggest names set to play on Day 1 at Wimbledon.
Alcaraz & Raducanu will headline the opening day at Wimbledon while Jannik Sinner, Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka are amongst other big names that are scheduled on show courts
News Insights
- Raducanu is making her first appearance since breaking onto the scene in 2022.
- Carlos Alcaraz will play World No. 262 Mark Lajal on Centre Court.
- British wildcard, Charles Broom will face 39-year-old Stan Wawrinka.
- Weather looks hopeful for the first day of play!
Focusing on Centre Court, Carlos Alcaraz will open up the day’s play against qualifier, Mark Lajal. Alcaraz is priced at $1.01 for the match, so the bookies expect Emma Raducanu to be swiftly on court soon after.
Emma Raducanu will be playing Ekaterina Alexandrova who is the 22nd seed this year. A tough opening match for both players, of course Emma Raducanu’s ranking is slightly irrelevant due to her taking time out because of injury. Bookies price this match as a fairly even matchup. Elsewhere in the women’s draw, Coco Gauff - 2nd seed - will face fellow American Caroline Dolehide in the third and final match on Centre Court for day one.
We shift our focus to Court One, Daniil Medvedev will be chuffed to know that he will play on Court One as he has previously shown a liking to the court. His deep return position can be practiced to far greater effect because of the larger court area compared to Centre Court. Aryna Sabalenka will follow up against Emina Bektas of the United States. Finally, Jannik Sinner who will certainly fancy his chances of a title this year - he is also the top seed for Wimbledon. Yannick Hanfmann will have the challenge of facing the new World No.1 on Court No.1.
Plenty of big names will be on other courts around the grounds such as four-time Grand Slam champion, Naomi Osaka. She will play Diane Parry on Court No.2. Gael Monfils will play Adrian Mannarino in what is perhaps the tie of the round in the men’s singles draw - you will be able to watch that match over on Court 18 which is another show court.
