Ange Postecoglou’s strong start to life at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is now officially enshrined in Premier League record books. The Australian manager set a record for most points earned by a Premier League manager in their first nine matches after his 2-0 victory against Fulham in North London on Monday.

Tottenham have earned 23 points through nine matches. They are top of the Premier League heading into EPL Matchweek 10.

Spurs play Crystal Palace next, so most betting sites have them as favourites to stay at the top after this weekend’s fixture.

Australian manager breaks Premier League record

No Premier League manager in history has earned more points in their first nine matches as a manager than Australia’s own Ange Postecoglou. The Melbourne native has guided his Spurs side to an undefeated start to the Premier League season. Spurs sit at the top of the EPL table with 23 points.

Postecoglou’s 23-point start breaks the breaks the previous record of 22 points, which was held jointly by Mike Walker and Guus Hiddink. Walker set the record while managing Norwich City in the Premier League’s inaugural season back in 1992-93. Hiddink tied the record with Chelsea in the 2008-09 season.

For Tottenham’s sake, let’s hope this record is not as cursed as it seems to be. Both Walker and Hiddink’s Norwich and Chelsea sides ended up finishing third in the table following their strong starts to the season. Walker’s Norwich City team specifically experienced one of the most notable late-season collapses in EPL history.

Spurs top of the table, but not favourites

Soccer betting sites seem to think Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs will suffer a similar fate as Walker and Hiddink’s Norwich and Chelsea teams.

Despite leading the Premier League in points a quarter of the way through the season, Tottenham are not title favourites with the betting agencies. Most sites have Manchester City as the most likely winners with Arsenal, and Liverpool just behind them.

PlayUp gives Spurs 10.00 odds to win the EPL title. Man City has 1.68 odds, Liverpool and Arsenal are tied at second with 5.50 chances.

Spurs were not expected to perform this well after losing star striker Harry Kane prior to the season starting. Despite not having Kane, Spurs are still at the top of the table.

Some other Australian betting sites have shown more love to ‘Big Ange’ and Tottenham, but you would have a tough time trying to find them as favourites.

EPL Matchweek 10 Spurs preview

Tottenham will get the chance to build on their strong start to the season this weekend when they go down to South London to play Crystal Palace. The Eagles are having a good season, but Postecoglou’s side should have no problem keeping their undefeated streak going.

Palace will likely be without their two biggest playmakers, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise. Tottenham, meanwhile, will be coming into this match with a full-strength side. Unlike their other title contenders, Spurs will be freshly rested as they do not have midweek competitions to worry about.

If Tottenham do get a win against Palace, it will be hard for the betting sites to keep ignoring them. Don’t be surprised if people start talking about Spurs as legitimate title contenders very soon.
