Australian Open Multi Bet With 3x Return on Round 2 Action
Best Multi Bet for Australian Open Round 2
Jordan Thompson vs Nuno Borges
Melbourne Park, January 15th, 11am AEDT
Over 3.5 sets @ 1.45
Matchups like this between Jordan Thompson and Nuno Borges are a wonderful watch because you simply know that this match won’t end in three sets. The players are very close in level and either of them realistically can win. Thompson might be slightly favoured on sports betting apps because he’s at home, but Borges just nearly made a final in Auckland and he’s been playing very well the past 12 months.
Another reason why this is likely a very close match is that Borges generally produces thrillers. He rarely gets blown off the court and even if he does, Thompson doesn’t really have the power to do so. The Aussie is a fine player but wins by grinding out points and that’s a style that Borges doesn’t mind playing.
Simply with the way both have performed recently and with the matchup generally, it reads like a match that will see both win at least one set. This would guarantee at least four sets in the match, getting our multi bet off to the perfect start.
Jack Draper vs Thanasi Kokkinakis
Melbourne, January 15th, not before 7pm AEDT
Over 3.5 sets @ 1.50
Everything we said about the Thompson vs Borges match above essentially is true for this clash as well. It’s once again a very close matchup, even though most people would argue that Jack Draper is the better player overall. But he’s a Brit, and they don’t tend to fare too well in this Aussie sun, which is likely to trouble him a little bit.
He already dropped two sets to Mariano Navone, who is a clay court player, so there is a fairly good chance that he drops one to Thanasi Kokkinakis. The Australian has looked excellent at the start of this year, once again playing well on native soil, which isn’t a massive surprise.
Kokkinakis is very likely to win a set here, if not the entire match. Whatever happens though, it’s very likely that both will win at least one set. It’s simply too close of a matchup, and Kokkinakis will have too much crowd support to go down in three.
All three matches they played so far saw both win a set, so that’s a theme in this matchup. With this being a best of five, it’s very likely that we’re going to see some momentum shifts.
Paula Badosa vs Talia Gibson
Melbourne, January 15th, approx. 9am AEDT
Over 16.5 games @ 1.40
The odds offered by all betting sites in Australia imply that Badosa is expected to thrash Talia Gibson, but we disagree with that. Sure, Badosa has played well to start the year. She won her first match at the Australian
Open comfortably, but Gibson is a native player who will have the backing of the crowd.
She’s also a very decent shot-maker who can put a decent amount of pace on the ball, which can and has troubled Badosa in the past. This doesn’t read like a matchup that will be a 6-2, 6-2 shellacking, so that’s why we’re backing the over for the final leg of our multi.
Gibson has lost matches in straight sets but she’s cleared this line in all of them. Badosa also dropped a set a few times this year already, so while she won’t lose a set most likely, there is a chance that this ends up being a 6-3, 6-4 match which would clear the line comfortably.
At these odds, it simply makes too much sense. This is going to be the first time they play as well, so Badosa might take a few games to scout her opponent properly before dealing the finishing blow, further increasingly the likelihood of this bet hitting.
