Multibets for Day 2 of the Australian Open

Our focus for the multibets today will be trying to exploit the generous handicap lines on offer for some of the mis-matches. As a result, we will bump up the price by combining them into multis.

We have a look into a qualifier who is a huge $1.40 favourite in her opening match, could there be any value in opposing her? In addition, we assess whether the French veteran can run Alcaraz close in their first round match.

Gasquet vs Alcaraz, Men’s Singles, Round One

Alcaraz -8.5 Games  @ 1.75 with PlayUp

Alcaraz will be fairly content with this draw. The Frenchman is now 37 years old, he is surely months away from retirement. His serve could be vulnerable and he will struggle to live with the energetic nature of the Spainard.

McDonald vs Shang

Shang To Win@ 1.65 with PlayUp

McDonald has been far from impressive this season, he has won just nine games in four sets. Shang had an impressive run to the semi-finals in Hong Kong before falling short to Rublev, he will also be well-rested as that was over a week ago.

Noskova vs Bouzkova, Women’s Singles, Round One

Over 2.5 Sets @ 2.40 with PlayUp

Both of these players are hard battlers on the tennis court, if this match will pan out as we predict it. Plenty of breaks and swings of momentum should be expected from both players multiple times during the match.

Multi Bet of the Weekend

Hunter vs Errani, Women’s Singles, Round One

Hunter -4.5 Games @ 1.98 with PlayUp

Storm Hunter will not believe her luck with this draw after coming through as a qualifier. I believe Sara Errani is just too weak for these quick Melbourne courts. Hunter will have much more power to expose the conditions, she should be able to dispatch the Italian with ease.

Wawrinka vs Mannarino, Men’s Singles, Round One

Wawrinka +4.5 Games  @ 1.85 with PlayUp

We had small doubts over Stan’s ability to slog out matches in recent years however, he has proved is capable of that in tougher conditions over in New York. This could certainly be a battle, and at this spread we are happy to side with Stan.

Duckworth vs Van Assche, Men’s Singles, Round One

Van Assche -1.5 Games @ 1.85 with PlayUp

Van Assche is certainly a market favourite and there is often value in opposing him. However, we feel the market has underrated the young Frenchman on this occasion. Recently took Norrie to 3 sets.

Multi Bet of the Weekend

Norrie vs Varillas, Men’s Singles, Round One

Varillas To Win @ 7.00 with Bet365

This bet may seem as a bit of surprise however, we are looking to take a cheap price on Varillas due to the injury concerns around Norrie. It is unknown if his withdrawal at Auckland was precautionary, it would seem odd to withdraw in his home country (or one of his homes)!

Evans vs Sonego, Men’s Singles, Round One

Evans To Win  @ 2.10 with Bet365

Seeing Evans at the price is a little surprising to us, he seems to be much more focused on his game at the turn of the year. The slice, net-play, and effective serve will definitely cause Sonego trouble in this match.

Pavlyuchenkova vs Vekic, Women’s Singles, Round One

Pavlyuchenkova 2-0  @ 2.38 with Bet365

Pavlyuchenkova has shown signs of being back to her best after returning to the tour. She is winning sets in convincing fashion. Vekic can be a little erratic, she also has not played since October.

Multi Bet of the Weekend

That’s a wrap for our multibet, we have combined a few early Day 3 picks alongside some solid Day 2 shouts. We have some strong opinions on some of the matches, feel free to take ‘safer’ plays to combine in your multibet. Keep your eyes peeled for more multibets and news throughout the week!
