The main draws are scheduled to start on May 26 all the way through to June 9. Rafael Nadal will be making a return to Roland Garros although he is an outsider this year. Novak Djokovic will be looking to defend his title despite being second-favourite to Carlos Alcaraz.

Roland Garros 2024 Preview
When will the French Open commence and who should I look out for?
News Insights
- Rafael Nadal expected to participate in Roland Garros 2024
- Alcaraz & Swiatek are the market favourites for men’s and women’s singles
- Most competitive men’s grand slam in several years
- Men’s and women’s draws are expected at the end of the week before qualifying concludes.
The ATP draw certainly looks to be extremely competitive with many of the big names given a fair chance to go all the way, including Djokovic, Alcaraz, Sinner, Tsitsipas & Ruud.
Swiatek will be looking to keep her close competition at bay, in particular Sabalenka who has had recent success on the Grand Slam stage.
Why is the men’s draw so open?
There isn’t a clear answer to this question, however none of the men have shown true consistence across the clay season so far. Big names such as Alcaraz have not seen as much success in ATP 500/1000 events as they would like. Performances have not been backed up in the event that takes place in the following week, which is why we should be in for an entertaining couple of weeks in the ATP draw.
Novak Not Ready?
Novak Djokovic has recently split with his long-term coach, Goran Ivanisevic. Leaving him without a coach in the lead up to Roland Garros. Djokovic seems fairly unprepared for the next couple of weeks, by no means write him off as we have seen him stroll to Grand Slam titles with next to little preparation. However, the clay courts provide much stronger competition against the Serb so he will need to find his form reasonably sharpish.
Swiatek feeling confident
World No.1, Iga Swiatek will be feeling confident heading into Roland Garros as she picked up titles in Madrid & Rome consecutively. On both occasions she got the better of her closest rival, Aryna Sabalenka. It is no secret that Iga will prefer the clay against power-hitting opponents such as Aryna Sabalenka & Elena Rybakina. However, Sabalenka has beaten her before on the Spanish clay which saw her on the way to victory in Madrid 2023.
