Discover where schedules will clash ahead of Australia’s biggest T20 tournament

The India vs Australia T20 series concluded on Sunday, meaning the squad will be flying back to Australia but some may not be available for the first round.

News Insights

  • 5 Match Test Series vs Pakistan (Dec 14 - Jan 29)
  • Four-day tour match (Dec 6-9) including many big names
  • Abu Dhabi T10 finishing Dec 9
  • England vs WI series concluding Dec 21

With many of these competitions and international fixtures clashing with the BBL, the teams have had to ensure they have big squads including homegrown talent to field a good team in each round. At the moment, Abu Dhabi T10 has taken some big names away from the BBL for the initial game such as Quinton De Kock. The South-African opening batsman has confirmed that he will miss the first two matches due to T10 commitments. However, Heat’s Colin Munro arrived in Australia before the season opener vs Melbourne Stars. He received a nice welcome package from the Heat which leaves question marks on whether he will be leading the men in blue this year.

Australia vs Pakistan

This 5 match test series will run until the end of January, however it allows Labuschagne, Smith and Khawaja to take part in their first match of the BBL before leaving for the first test in Perth.

Other players affected will be: Boland, Marsh, Carey, Lyon, Warner, Head and Morris. A few other players such as Josh Inglis have potential to be called up in later tests.

SA20 Competition

Looking into the new year, the second edition of the SA20 will start on January 10. It is highly likely that Quinton De Kock will depart for his home country as he was a captain last year. Rashid Khan has already pulled out of BBL 13 therefore, his availability will be unaffected. Liam Dawson, who has signed for the Stars, has picked up a pre-signed contract for Sunrisers Eastern Cape could also be another player to depart.

ILT20

A large number of players have signed for both tournaments however, many of the Aussies are likely to wait until the conclusion of the BBL. This is due to the slightly later start to the ILT20 this year. Notable names that are contracted to the ILT20 are: Hales, Laurie Evans, Lynn, Munro, Vince, Smith, Tye, Sams, Ellis. It is expected for more contracts to be signed in the run-up to the competition.
