EPL 2023/24 Matchweek 2

With Matchweek One of the 2023-24 season done, we can look forward to Matchweek 2. There are only nine games this week with Luton vs. Burnley being postponed, but there are still plenty of good bets to make this week. Our best picks this week are OVER 2.5 goals in Man United vs Tottenham, BTTS - YES in Man City vs Newcastle, and Chelsea to win vs West Ham. See why below. All odds courtesy of PlayUp.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United

August 20th, 02:30, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Tottenham showed what they can be without Harry Kane last week in their 2-2 draw against Brentford. Manchester United, meanwhile, disappointed in a 1-0 victory over Wolves that really should have ended 1-1 if not for a blown penalty call.

We think it’s too early to start seriously worrying about Manchester United this season, although it’s clear their midfield needs some work. The trio of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Mason Mount looked disconnected at times and very open. We think Spurs will take advantage of this and score at least once. That’s why we are backing OVER 2.5 goals @ $1.58 in this match.

Manchester City vs. Newcastle United

August 20th, 05:30, Etihad Stadium

Manchester City and Newcastle both put up dominating performances last week against Burnley and Aston Villa. The Cityzens comfortably won 3-0 at Burnley while Newcastle won 5-1 at home.

Man City come into this one following a 1-1 penalty victory over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. This could mean tired legs on Sunday. Even if that is the case, we back Man City to beat Newcastle. The Magpies will probably score, but we can’t back them to win it. Our multi-bet pick for this game is Both Teams To Score - YES @ $1.75

West Ham vs. Chelsea

August 21th, 01:30, London Stadium

West Ham disappointed last week and could only draw against Bournemouth. Chelsea also only took one point from their last game, but they are feeling much better about themselves as their draw was against Liverpool.

Chelsea should be debuting new record-transfer-setting midfielder Moises Caicedo this weekend. As exciting as this is, Caicedo is not a goalscorer, which is what Chelsea really need. Even without an out-and-out goalscorer, Chelsea should have enough to beat West Ham. The Hammers also are lacking a goalscorer, but that is just the beginning of their problems. We are backing Chelsea to win against West Ham @ $1.88
