Matchweek 10 Fixtures

Newcastle vs. Arsenal

Tip

St. James' Park, 11:30 PM, Saturday, November 2

Newcastle suffered a 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, while Arsenal drew 2-2 at home to Liverpool. The Gunners were definitely the more impressive side last week, and probably should’ve beaten Liverpool.

The Magpies, on the other hand, looked like the same flawed side we’ve seen since September. Newcastle have won just one of their last six matches in all competitions.

They haven’t scored more than two goals in a match since 15 September. Injuries to their back line have also made Newcastle pretty leaky defensively. That limited back line is going to be even more stretched since they have to play midweek against Chelsea.

It’s hard to see Newcastle getting anything from this match. Our pick is here a 2-0 win for Arsenal.

Bournemouth vs. Manchester City

Tip

Vitality Stadium, 2:00 AM, Sunday, November 3

Manchester City struggled again to win last week. Okay, struggled might be too far, but Southampton are terrible. The Sky Blues really should’ve scored more than one goal. A win is a win though and Man City are top of the table.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, sit in 11th place after their 1-1 draw with Aston Villa. The Cherries were against it for much of the match, but a 96th minute goal from Evanilson was enough to secure a point.

This match looks like it will be more of the same for both sides. Andoni Iraola’s team are organised enough defensively to cause problems for any side. They have scored in each of their home matches this season, so we think they are good money to score at least one counter attacking goal here.

City haven’t lost in their last 15 fixtures and have never lost away to Bournemouth. We’re backing them to get a 2-1 win here.

Ipswich Town vs. Leicester City

Tip

Portman Road, 2:00 AM, Sunday, November 3

Last week, Ipswich Town scored three goals against Brentford and somehow lost 4-3. Leicester City conceded three to their East Midlands derby rivals Nottingham Forest in a 3-1 disappointing defeat.

This was going to be a relegation six-pointer no matter what, but after those pair of results, this match is now even more important. Given the stakes, we expect this to be a very tight match.

Both matches these two sides played in the Championship last season ended 1-1. Ipswich have looked solid at home this year, but it’s hard to argue that Leicester haven’t been the better EPL team. The Foxes have won two of their last three and have lost just two matches since 14 September.

Given that we’ve seen more from Leicester than the Tractor Boys, we’re backing the Foxes to get a 2-1 win.

Liverpool vs. Brighton & Hove Albion

Tip

Anfield, 2:00 AM, Sunday, November 3

This match will be the second of two fixtures Brighton play against Liverpool this week. On Wednesday, the Seagulls will host the Reds in the EFL Cup. With Brighton’s injuries, it’s hard to see them winning either of these fixtures.

Club captain and starting centre back Lewis Dunk will be out for up to four weeks and backup Adam Webster will be out for at least another two weeks. This leaves Brighton with just two natural centre backs. Not to mention that their star attacker Joao Pedro is still injured.

Liverpool have their share of injuries too–with Alisson, Diogo Jota, and others out–but they’ve coped well without them so far. When you take in the Anfield advantage and Brighton’s inconsistency recently, we’re backing Liverpool to win this 2-1.

Nottingham Forest vs. West Ham United

Tip

The City Ground, 2:00 AM, Sunday, November 3

After a setback against Fulham at home a few weeks ago, Nottingham Forest are back at their best. The Reds have won two of their last three. The one match they didn’t win was a brave 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

West Ham are far from at their best right now, but the Hammers are starting to show signs of life after their 2-1 win over Manchester United. However, it’s hard to say that Julen Lopetegui’s side deserved that win after they were gifted a late penalty.

The Hammers have not kept a clean sheet since August. Forest have scored in all but one of their matches in all competitions this season.

West Ham were lucky to beat Man Utd and will need some luck to win against Forest. Because we don’t see them getting lucky again, our Nottingham Forest vs. West Ham prediction is a 2-1 win for Forest.

Southampton vs. Everton

Tip

St. Mary's Stadium, 2:00 AM, Sunday, November 3

Southampton held on for dear life against a misfiring Manchester City side last week. The Saints lost the match, but they did well to keep it a 1-0 margin. Everton, meanwhile, picked up a point via a 94th-minute equaliser from Beto against Fulham.

The Toffees haven’t lost in six matches and have done a great job of keeping matches close and low-scoring. Five of Everton’s last six matches have had less than 2.5 goals.

Southampton have been pretty much the exact opposite of Everton. They have conceded in 12 straight games and four of their last five have had more than 2.5 goals.

When you add in that Southampton are going to be fielding a slightly weakened side after playing many of their starters midweek against Stoke in the EFL Cup, this should be an easy win for Everton.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Crystal Palace

Tip

Molineux Stadium, 4:30 AM, Sunday, November 3

Wolves were one of five teams to score a match-deciding goal after the 90th minute in Matchweek 9. The Wanderers scored two goals after the 88th minute to salvage a point on the road against Brighton.

Brighton’s rivals, Crystal Palace, picked up their first win of the season in a surprising 1-0 win over Tottenham. That result lifted the Eagles out of the relegation zone, but not by much. Oliver Glasner’s side are just two points above 18th place and should very much be treating this match like a relegation six-pointer.

Both these sides have been underperforming their advanced numbers and have had very difficult schedules so far. Wolves haven’t struggled to score like Palace have though.

The Eagles have scored multiple goals in the Premier League just once this season. Wolves have done it three times and against some pretty big sides.

Wolves’ defence is too shaky for us to back them completely though. Our pick here is another 2-2 draw for Gary O’Neil’s side.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Aston Villa

Tip

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 1:00 AM, Monday, November 4

Both Tottenham and Aston Villa dropped points in Matchweek 9. Spurs’ result though has the potential to derail their season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, who were in the relegation zone and had not won a Premier League match this season before playing Spurs. This result saw the Lilywhites move into 8th place. They could drop into the bottom half this week if they lose to Aston Villa.

Unai Emery’s team have a good record against Spurs. The Villains have won three of their last four matches at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and three of their last four overall against the Lilywhites.

Villa are on an 11-match unbeaten run and come into this match with a fully fit side. Spurs could be without Son Heung-min as he struggles with fitness issues.

As much as we normally would bet on Big Ange to get things back on track, we think Aston Villa will win this match 2-1.

Manchester United vs. Chelsea

Tip

Old Trafford, 3:30 AM, Monday, November 4

Manchester United finally pulled the trigger. Eik ten Hag is gone.Reports say that Sporting CP manager Rúben Amorim will take over for the former Ajax man, but it’s unclear whether he will be able to coach this weekend. It’s looking like another Dutchman, Ruud van Nistelrooy, will take charge instead. Either way, this will be tough for Man Utd.

Chelsea are by no means world beaters, but they know who they are and play with a lot of energy. Man Utd have no identity and their players often look completely disinterested.

Until a new manager comes in to sort Man Utd out, we can’t back them to get a result against another top side. Our pick is a 2-1 win for Chelsea. The only reason we aren’t going for a bigger win for Chelsea is because we think Man Utd will play it safe and not give the Blues many chances to counter.

Fulham vs. Brentford

Tip

Craven Cottage, 7:00 AM, Tuesday, November 5

Brentford’s 4-3 win against Ipswich Town was the most impressive comeback in a weekend full of late thrilling goals. After that result, the Bees are in 9th place and on track for potentially their best ever Premier League season.

Fulham, meanwhile, conceded a 94th minute goal to Everton in their 1-1 draw with the Toffees at Goodison Park. The Cottagers arguably deserved all three points, but you can’t argue that they have fallen off recently.

Fulham have failed to win each of their last three matches. They also conceded multiple goals in one match twice during that stretch. Marco Silva’s side started the season with eight straight matches where they conceded one goal or less.

Brentford’s defence is worse than Fulhams, having conceded in each of their last eight matches, but we are expecting a tight, low-scoring game here.

Our Fulham vs. Brentford prediction is a 1-1 draw.
