Everton vs. Liverpool
Goodison Park, 11:30 PM, Saturday, December 7
Barring a surprise meeting in the FA Cup, this match will be the very last Merseyside Derby hosted at Goodison Park. A lot of EPL predictions this week have speculated the legendary Goodison Park atmosphere could deliver Everton a win in this historic fixture. We can’t see that happening.
Everton dominated Wolves 4-0 midweek. Those four goals are the only goals they have scored in their last five matches. Against Manchester United in Matchweek 13, we saw the Toffees back line concede comical goals under pressure.
Liverpool will harass Everton’s defenders more than Man Utd did and they have more clinical forwards than the Red Devils, so this should be an easy win for Arne Slot’s side.
Everton vs. Liverpool prediction: Everton 0-2 Liverpool
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Liverpool to WIN & OVER 1.5 Goals | $1.65
Both Teams To Score - NO | $1.95
Liverpool -1.5 | $2.15 |
Predicted Lineups
Everton: Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gueye, Mangala; Ndiaye, Doucoure, McNeil; Beto
Liverpool: Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Nunez
Aston Villa vs. Southampton
Villa Park, 2:00 AM, Sunday, December 8
Aston Villa snapped their poor run of form with a 3-1 win over Brentford midweek. Southampton, meanwhile, have now lost three of their last four after losing 1-5 to Chelsea at home on Wednesday.
While we have doubts about the Villain’s ability to handle a congested fixture schedule, we see Unai Emery’s side winning this match convincingly. To be very blunt about it, Southampton are terrible, especially away from home.
The Saints have yet to win on the road and have scored just four goals in six matches away from St. Mary’s this season. When you add in that only one of their starting centre backs will be available for this game, we don’t see Southampton having a chance here.
Aston Villa vs. Southampton prediction: Aston Villa 2-0 Southampton
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Player Shown A Card - Flynn Downes | $2.35
UNDER 3.5 Goals | $1.65 | |
Both Teams To Score - NO | $2.20 |
Predicted Lineups
Aston Villa: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Kamara, Tielemans; Bailey, Rogers, McGinn; Watkins
Southampton: Lumley; Sugawara, Wood, Harwood-Bellis, Walker-Peters, Manning; Dibling, Fernandes, Downes, Aribo; Armstrong
Brentford vs. Newcastle
Gtech Community Stadium, 2:00 AM, Sunday, December 8
Both Brentford and Newcastle stayed true to form in their Matchweek 14 fixtures on Wednesday.
The Bees have the best home record in the league. They followed up an impressive run of home matches with a disappointing 3-1 defeat away at Aston Villa.
The Magpies have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the league. Eddie Howe’s team bounced back from poor results against West Ham and Crystal Palace with a 3-3 draw to the betting sites title favourites Liverpool.
If these patterns hold, Brentford should do well against Newcastle. On the other hand, Newcastle haven't lost to Brentford in their last 6 matchups (5W, 1D). The Bees are also very thin in midfield with Mathias Jensen out injured.
If Newcastle can keep the momentum from the Liverpool draw going, they should get at least a point here.
Brentford vs. Newcastle prediction: Brentford 1-1 Newcastle
Predicted Lineups
Brentford: Flekken; van den Berg, Collins, Pinnock, Lewis-Potter; Yarmolyuk, Janelt, Damsgaard; Mbeumo, Wissa, Schade
Newcastle: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Isak, Gordon
Crystal Palace vs. Manchester City
Selhurst Park, 2:00 AM, Sunday, December 8
Manchester City got back to their winning ways with a routine 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday. It will still be tough for them to catch Liverpool in the title race, but this weekend is a good opportunity to close the gap and to stay in the top four.
Crystal Palace did well to beat Ipswich away from home on Tuesday, but they are still a team that Man City should be beating easily, even in their weakened state.
The Eagles are just three points out of the relegation zone and do not have a midfield that can threaten City’s like the other teams who have caused them trouble recently.
Crystal Palace vs. Man City prediction: Palace 1-2 Man City
Predicted Lineups
Crystal Palace: Henderson; Chalobah, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Hughes, Doucoure, Mitchell; Sarr, Mateta, Eze
Man City: Ortega; Walker, Dias, Ake, Gvardiol; Gundogan, Lewis; Silva, Foden, Grealish; Haaland
Manchester United vs. Nottingham Forest
Old Trafford, 4:30 AM, Sunday, December 8
After their dominating 4-0 win against Everton last weekend, Manchester United crashed back down to earth with a midweek 2-0 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates. The Red Devils conceded a pair of goals from corners, but very easily could’ve given up just as many goals from open play.
Nottingham Forest were also shut out midweek, losing 3-0 to a resurgent Man City side away at the Etihad Stadium. As poor as that result was for Forest, our EPL predictions have them doing well against Man Utd.
The overwhelming feeling watching Rubem Amorim’s side right now is that they are a work in progress. Many players are being forced to play out of position and are clearly still figuring out where they should be in the Portuguese’s system.
A well-drilled side like Forest who know how to execute clinical counter attacks will get plenty of chances to score against a disjointed team like Man Utd right now.
Man Utd vs. Nottingham Forest prediction: Man Utd 2-2 Forest
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Both Teams To Score - YES | $1.72
Double Chance 2 - Forest WIN or DRAW | $2.28
OVER 2.5 Goals | $1.72 |
Predicted Lineups
Man Utd: Onana; Mazraoui, de Ligt, Martinez; Diallo, Mainoo, Fernandes, Dalot; Mount, ZIrkzee, Rashford
Nottm Forest: Sels; Aina, Milenkovic, Murillo, Moreno; Yates, Anderson; Elanga, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Wood
Fulham vs. Arsenal
Craven Cottage, 1:00 AM, Monday, December 9
Arsenal took care of business against Manchester United on Wednesday, getting all three points in a 2-0 win at home. With Liverpool’s 3-3 draw at Newcastle, the Gunners are now just seven points back from first place. A good run through this busy period could see Arsenal emerge as real challengers down the stretch.
Fulham will not make it easy for Arteta’s side though. The Cottagers earned four points from their two matches against Arsenal last season. They won this fixture at Craven Cottage 2-1 on New Year’s Eve.
We could see them repeating that result this season. Fulham’s attacking unit has been very productive so far. Four players have scored three open-play goals or more for the Cottagers this season.
Arsenal’s talent should see them through, but we think Fulham will give the Gunners a good fight.
Fulham vs. Arsenal prediction: Fulham 1-2 Arsenal
Predicted Lineups
Fulham: Leno; Tete, Diop, Bassey, Robinson; Pereira, Berge; Iwobi, Smith Rowe, Nelson; Jimenez
Arsenal: Raya; Partey, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber; Odegaard, Jorginho, Rice; Saka, Havertz, Trossard
Ipswich Town vs. Bournemouth
Portman Road, 1:00 AM, Monday, December 9
Despite their place in the table, Ipswich Town looked like one of the most over-performing teams in the league for the first third of the season. It now seems the wheels are starting to fall off though.
Following their 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace, the Tractor Boys have lost two straight. They were also shut out in both those losses. Overall, Ipswich have scored just four goals in their last five fixtures.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, know how to cause problems no matter who they are playing. The only question is whether the Cherries will have the energy to press and execute Andoni Iraola’s tactics. If they lose focus, we could see Ipswich punishing them.
We’re going to play it safe and trust Iraola’s team to get the job done. If you are looking to back an upset this weekend though, this is a match worth watching out for.
Ipswich Town vs. Bournemouth prediction: Ipswich 1-2 Bournemouth
Predicted Lineups
Ipswich: Muric; Clarke, O’Shea, Greaves, Davis; Morsy, Cajuste; Burns, Hutchinson, Szmodics; Delap
Bournemouth: Arrizabalaga; Smith, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Cook, Christie; Semenyo, Kluivert, Tavernier; Evanilson
Leicester City vs. Brighton
King Power Stadium, 1:00 AM, Monday, December 9
Leicester City are not quite flying under new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, but there have been some promising signs in the Dutchman’s two matches in charge.
The Foxes first lost 4-1 to Brentford in a game that was tighter than the score makes it seem. Then, they grinded out an impressive 3-1 win over struggling West Ham midweek.
Brighton have an atrocious record against newly-promoted side. They are also a bottom-third team in the league away from home Expected Goals Difference per 90 minutes. On paper, this is a strong argument that Leicester could be another banana peel for the Seagulls, but we’re going to back them here.
Facundo Buonanotte can’t play against his parent side and it’s hard to see Jamie Vardy producing much given his age and fixture congestion. With those two options gone, it will be tough for Leicester to score.
Leicester vs. Brighton prediction: Leicester 1-3 Brighton
Predicted Lineups
Leicester: Hermansen; Justin, Coady, Vestergaard; Kristiansen, Soumare, Ndidi; Mavididi, McAteer, El Khannouss; Vardy
Brighton: Verbruggen; Veltman, van Hecke, Igor; Kadioglu; Baleba, O’Riley; Rutter, Pedro, Mitoma; Ferguson
Tottenham vs. Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 3:30 AM, Monday, December 9
Chelsea are second in the table after their dominating 5-1 win over Southampton on Wednesday. Despite their place in the table, no one really considers the Blues as title contenders.
PlayUp gives Chelsea $17 odds of winning the Premier League this season. For context, Man City, who are barely hanging on to a place in the top four, have $7 chances. Arsenal at $3.25 and Liverpool at $1.72 also have better odds than Chelsea.
Tottenham could prove the betting sites right with a big win over Chelsea here, but we don’t like their chances. Spurs have lost four of their last five matches against Chelsea at home since 2021.
Additionally, the Blues’ deep squad has allowed them to stay fresh during this period. Spurs, who are already struggling with injuries, could have a hard time keeping up with Chelsea.
Predicted Lineups
Tottenham: Forster; Porro, Dragusin, Davies, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma, Kulusevski; Johnson, Solanke, Son
Chelsea: Jörgensen; Gusto, Badiashile, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Madueke, Palmer, Neto; Jackson
West Ham vs. Wolves
London Stadium, 3:30 AM, Monday, December 9
For at least the second time this season, Wolves manager Gary O’Neil and West Ham manager are fighting for their jobs following terrible defeats to sides they should be beating.
West Ham took 31 shots against Leicester City on Tuesday in an inexplicable 3-1 loss to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s new team. Wolves suffered a 4-0 loss to Everton, who had lost 4-0 to Man Utd themselves just days earlier.
It is so hard to pick a winner from these two with both teams struggling so much right now. Our official pick for this match is a draw. However, Wolves have at least shown us that they can score consistently, so if we had to pick a winner, it would be them. Wolves have scored 10 goals in their last 5 matches.
West Ham vs. Wolves prediction: West Ham 2-2 Wolves
Predicted Lineups
West Ham: Fabianski; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Emerson; Soucek, Alvarez; Bowen, Paqueta, Kudus; Antonio
Wolves: Sa; Semedo, Lemina, Toti, Ait-Nouri; Andre, J. Gomes; Bellegarde, Cunha, R. Gomes; Strand Larsen
