Arsenal vs. Everton
Emirates Stadium, 2:00 AM, Sunday, December 15
Storm Darragh meant the Merseyside Derby was postponed and that Everton got an extra week to prepare for this match. Even with this extra time and rest, we can’t see the Toffees winning this one.
Yes, Arsenal slipped up against Fulham in Matchweek 15, but Everton are not Fulham. Not this year at least. Sean Dyche’s side have scored just five goals away from home this season. They have played two ‘Big 6’ teams this season (Tottenham and Man Utd) and lost both those matches 4-0.
Arsenal are struggling to create goals from open play right now, but it’s hard to see them not putting at least two past Everton at home, especially since Manchester United managed to score four against the Toffees.
Arsenal vs. Everton Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Everton
Predicted Lineups
Arsenal: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior; Odegaard, Jorginho, Rice; Saka, Havertz, Trossard
Everton: Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gueye, Mangala; Ndiaye, Doucoure, McNeil; Calvert-Lewin
Liverpool vs. Fulham
Anfield, 2:00 AM, Sunday, December 15
While the Merseyside Derby was canceled, Liverpool still had reason to celebrate last weekend. Both their main title challengers–Arsenal and Manchester City–dropped points, and they got more time to rest ahead of the upcoming congested festive fixture period.
Fulham also got to celebrate, following their gritty 1-1 draw to Arsenal at Craven Cottage. Marco Silva’s side have lost just one of their last seven matches. Unfortunately for Fulham fans, the club’s record against Liverpool at Anfield isn’t as stellar.
The Cottagers have lost six of their last seven matches at Liverpool. They have conceded multiple goals in four of their last six matches overall against the Merseyside club.
Given the form Liverpool are in now, with just one loss in 14 EPL matches so far, it’s hard to see them slipping up here against Fulham. We like the Reds’ odds even more with Joachim Anderson doubtful with injury and Calvin Bassey out via suspension for Fulham.
Liverpool vs. Fulham Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Fulham
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Liverpool Goals Range - Between 1 & 2 Inclusive | $2.00
Liverpool -1.5 | $1.82 | |
UNDER 3.5 Goals | $1.68 |
Predicted Lineups
Liverpool: Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Nunez
Fulham: Leno; Tete, Diop, Cuenca, Robinson; Pereira, Berge; Iwobi, Smith Rowe, Nelson; Jimenez
Newcastle vs. Leicester City
St. James' Park, 2:00 AM, Sunday, December 15
Newcastle continued their inconsistent run of form with a 2-4 defeat to Brentford in Matchweek 15. The Magpies are now on a four-match winless streak. They have also failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last five matches.
Leicester City have put together a solid little two-match unbeaten streak under Ruud van Nistelrooy after their dramatic 2-2 draw with Brighton last weekend..
As impressive as that result was, we back Newcastle to get the job done here. Eddie Howe’s side have a strong home record and Leicester have out performed their advanced numbers in road matches so far this season, so we can’t count on them to deliver away from home like they did against the Seagulls on Sunday.
Newcastle vs. Leicester Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Leicester
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Newcastle To WIN & OVER 2.5 Goals | $1.70
Both Teams To Score - YES | $1.77
OVER 3.5 Goals | $2.12 |
Predicted Lineups
Newcastle: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Isak, Gordon
Leicester: Hermansen; Justin, Coady, Vestergaard; Kristiansen, Skipp, Ndidi; McAteer, Buonanotte, El Khannouss; Vardy
Wolves vs. Ipswich Town
Molineux Stadium, 2:00 AM, Sunday, December 15
Following Wolves 2-1 loss to West Ham and Ipswich Town’s 1-2 defeat to Bournemouth, both these teams have lost three matches on the bounce.
Gary O’Neil may not survive this run, but Kieran McKenna seems to be safe. Whatever the case, this is a must-win match for both these managers. Unfortunately for McKenna, we think O’Neil will come out on top.
The Tractor Boys have scored just four goals in their last five matches. Ipswich also have the worst away record in the Premier League, and by a significant margin compared to last year’s relegation candidates.
Ipswich have a -1.69 Expected Goal Differential per 90 minutes (xGD/90). The gap between them and Southampton, who have the third-worst xGD/90 at -1.08, is nearly double the gap between the worst and third-worst away teams in the league last season.
Wolves vs. Ipswich Town Prediction: Wolves 3-1 Ipswich
Predicted Lineups
Wolves: Sa; Semedo, Bueno, Toti; Doherty, Andre, Lemina, Ait-Nouri; Bellegarde, Strand Larsen, Cunha
Ipswich: Muric; Johnson, O’Shea, Burgess, Davis; Morsy, Taylor; Hutchinson, Chaplin, Szmodics; Delap
Nottingham Forest vs. Aston Villa
The City Ground, 4:30 AM, Sunday, December 15
Nottingham Forest are still fifth in the table, following their impressive 2-3 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Aston Villa are closing in on the Reds. The Villains are just two points back after their 1-0 win over relegation candidates Southampton.
These teams have a fairly even record against each other since Forest returned to the Premier League in 2022. Villa have won two of their four meetings, with Forest winning and drawing the other two. Our EPL predictions have Nuno Espirito Santo’s side making things completely even this weekend.
Unai Emery’s team are notorious for struggling to cope with congested fixtures. Aston Villa have won only one of their five matches following a midweek Champions League game. Villa played RB Leipzig on Tuesday and have limited options upfront with Leon Bailey and Jacob Ramsay injured.
Nottingham Forest vs. Aston Villa Prediction: Forest 1-0 Aston Villa
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Forest Goals Range - Between 1 & 2 Inclusive | $1.58
UNDER 2.5 Goals | $1.93 | |
Draw No Bet - Forest | $1.85 |
Predicted Lineups
Forest: Sels; Aina, Milenkovic, Murillo, Williams; Yates, Anderson; Elanga, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Wood
Aston Villa: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Kamara, Tielemans; McGinn, Rogers, Philogene; Watkins
Brighton vs. Crystal Palace
American Express Stadium, 1:00 AM, Monday, December 16
Brighton threw away yet another two-goal lead last weekend in their 2-2 draw with Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, are flying high after a 2-2 draw with reigning champions Manchester City.
As boring as it is to say, we predict another draw for these sides in Matchweek 16. This one should be more low-scoring than the ones last weekend though.
Five of the last six meetings between these sides ended with less than 2.5 goals. Four of those five games were 1-1 draws. The one match with 2.5+ goals was an impressive 4-1 win at the Amex in February in the dying days of the second Roy Hodgson regime at Palace.
Given Brighton’s struggles against poor teams recently and Palace’s improvement under Oliver Glasner, we’re not sure you can take much from last year’s result.
Brighton vs. Crystal Palace Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Palace
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Both Teams To Score - YES | $1.65
UNDER 2.5 Goals | $2.05 | |
Palace To Win Either Half - YES | $2.30 |
Predicted Lineups
Brighton: Verbruggen; Veltman, van Hecke, Dunk; Estupinan; Baleba, Ayari; Rutter, Pedro, Mitoma; Welbeck
Crystal Palace: Henderson; Chalobah, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Hughes, Lerma, Mitchell; Sarr, Mateta, Eze
Manchester City vs. Manchester United
Etihad Stadium, 3:30 AM, Monday, December 16
Things are not going well in Manchester for either City or United. The Sky Blues could only manage a 2-2 draw against lowly Crystal Palace last weekend. The Red Devils, meanwhile, suffered a 2-3 loss at Old Trafford to Nottingham Forest in a match littered with errors from the home team.
Man City and Man Utd have not drawn any of their last 11 matches against each other. Pep Guardiola’s team have won seven of those 11 fixtures. They have won five of their last six at home against the Red Devils.
We are going against the history here though. Man City’s midfield and defence have been hit hard by injuries. The players who are available have no legs and can be easily outworked.
Additionally, Amorim proved earlier this season that he can beat Guardiola. It would also just be so perfectly stereotypically Man Utd for them to win this match against the odds.
Man City vs. Man Utd Prediction: Man City 1-2 Man Utd
Predicted Lineups
Man City: Ortega; Walker, Dias, Ake, Gvardiol; Gundogan, Silva; Savio, De Bruyne, Grealish; Haaland
Man Utd: Onana; Yoro, de Ligt, Martinez; Mazraoui, Mainoo, Fernandes, Dalot; Diallo, Hojlund, Rashford
Chelsea vs. Brentford
Stamford Bridge, 6:00 AM, Monday, December 16
The number one question everyone is asking heading into Matchweek 16 is “Are Chelsea title contenders?” The betting sites now have them third in the EPL title odds–behind Liverpool and Arsenal–but they could leapfrog Gunners with a win this weekend.
Brentford won’t make it easy for Chelsea. The Bees showed as much last weekend with a 4-2 win at home. However, that win was at home. Thomas Frank’s team have been the best team in the league at home, but have yet to win a match away from the Gtech Community Stadium. 26 of Brentford’s 31 goals this season have come at home.
It’s not a long road trip from Brentford to Stamford Bridge, but is an away fixture. We have to give the edge to Chelsea. The Blues are a bit chaotic though, so we also think Brenford will score.
Chelsea vs. Brentford Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Brentford
Predicted Lineups
Chelsea: Sanchez; Gusto, Badiashile, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Madueke, Palmer, Sancho; Jackson
Brentford: Flekken; van den Berg, Collins, Pinnock, Lewis-Potter; Yarmolyuk, Janelt, Damsgaard; Mbeumo, Wissa, Schade
Southampton vs. Tottenham
St. Mary's Stadium, 6:00 AM, Monday, December 16
Tottenham are now on a three-match winless run after losing to Chelsea 4-3 in heartbreaking fashion last weekend. Southampton are also in a rut, having lost four of their last five Premier League fixtures.
While Saints gave Aston Villa a closer fight than we expected, Tottenham should end their poor run this Sunday. Southampton have conceded 2+ goals in four of their last five matches, and have scored just 11 all season.
Spurs, despite their inconsistent form, have the third best attack in the Premier League and are averaging 2.1 goals per match this season.
To be generous, both Tottenham and Southampton are working with makeshift defences right now. There should be lots of goals here. In a shootout, we are taking Spurs to come out on top.
Southampton vs. Tottenham Prediction: Southampton 1-3 Spurs
Predicted Lineups
Southampton: Lumley; Bree, Wood, Harwood-Bellis, Walker-Peters, Manning; Dibling, Fernandes, Downes, Archer; Armstrong
Tottenham: Forster; Porro, Dragusin, Davies, Udogie; Sarr, Maddison, Kulusevski; Johnson, Solanke, Son
Bournemouth vs. West Ham
Vitality Stadium, 7:00 AM, Tuesday, December 17
West Ham picked up a solid 2-1 win over Gary O’Neil’s Wolves in ‘El Sackico’ over the weekend. They also got the good news that Michail Antonio is going to be okay after he was involved in a scary car crash on Saturday before the match. He won’t play again this season, but should be alright otherwise.
Bournemouth also earned three points over the weekend, beating Ipswich Town 1-2 at Portman Road.
The Cherries have not won any of their last five matches against West Ham (2D, 3L), but are the clear favourites here according to the soccer betting odds and our EPL predictions.
The Hammers haven’t shown us enough to back them against anyone yet, let alone a good team like Bournemouth. The Cherries have the fifth-best home record in the league according to Expected Goal Differential per 90 minutes and should do well against West Ham here.
Bournemouth vs. West Ham Prediction: Bournemouth 2-1 West Ham
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
West Ham Goals Range - Between 1 & 2 Inclusive | $1.60
UNDER 3.5 Goals | $1.58 | |
Bournemouth To WIN & Both Teams To Score - YES | $2.90 |
Predicted Lineups
Bournemouth: Arrizabalaga; Smith, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez; Cook, Christie; Tavernier, Kluivert, Semenyo; Evanilson
West Ham: Fabianski; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Cresswell; Soucek, Alvarez; Bowen, Paqueta, Kudus; Fullkrug
