Chelsea vs. Luton Town
Stamford Bridge, 5:00 AM, Saturday, August 26
All the good vibes at Chelsea following their week one draw against Liverpool quickly evaporated last weekend when The Blues were defeated 3-1 by a 10-man West Ham side at the London Stadium.
Luton Town had last week off due to their ground, Kenilworth Road, not yet being ready to host Premier League football. Even with an extra week to prepare, the Hatters will be extremely lucky to get anything out of their matchup against Chelsea.
Luton looked promising at times against Brighton in week one, but ultimately did not have the talent to compete against a good Premier League side, especially as the game went on. The Hatters lost 4–1 and gave up three goals in the last 25 minutes of the match.
Goals are harder to come by at Chelsea than at Brighton. This is true, but Chelsea should still be able to get past Luton at home.
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Chelsea -1.5 goals | $1.68
Both Teams To Score - NO | $1.70
Chelsea WIN and Nth Teams To Score - NO | $1.99 |
Predicted Lineups
Chelsea: Sanchez; Gusto, Disasi, Silva, Colwill, Chilwell; Fernandez, Caicedo; Chukwuemeka, Sterling; Jackson
Luton Town: Kaminski; Andersen, Lockyer, Bell; Kabore, Mpanzu, Nakamba, Chong, Giles; Adebayo, Morris
Bournemouth vs. Tottenham Hotspur
Vitality Stadium, 9:30 PM, Saturday, August 26
Bournemouth versus Tottenham will be a battle between two exciting, newly appointed managers.
For Tottenham, the Ange Postecoglu revolution is in full effect. The Lilywhites have scored two goals in each of their first two games thanks to Postecoglu’s brand of aggressive counter attacking football. Bournemouth have also played a brave counter attacking style in their first two matches under their new, up-and-coming manager Andoni Iraola.
While these two similar styles should give us all a good show, Tottenham have too much talent to lose to a side like Bournemouth. The Cherries may exploit Tottenham’s high press and a goal in this one, but we still like Spurs to win.
Predicted Lineups
Bournemouth: Neto; Aarons, Senesi, Zabarnyi, Kerkez; Billing, Rothwell; Semenyo, Ouattara, Anthony; Solanke
Tottenham: Vicario; Udogie, van de Ven, Romero, Royal; Bissouma, Skipp; Son, Maddison, Kulusevski; Richarlison
Arsenal vs. Fulham
Emirates Stadium, 12:00 AM, Sunday, August 27
Things have gone from bad to worse at Fulham. Not only were they blown out 3-0 last week against Brentford, Fulham had a man sent off in that game, and are now officially without Aleksandar Mitrović following his move to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal.
Arsenal also had a man sent off in a London derby last week. The Gunners showed their resiliency in a tough 1-0 victory away at Crystal Palace. Mikel Arteta and his men seemed to enjoy the hard fought match, which is a good sign for the rest of the season.
Fulham stayed up to many’s surprise last season on the back of a strong defence. This same defence could cause Arsenal this weekend, but we wouldn’t bet on it. Without Tim Ream, who is suspended, and with João Palhinha still coming back from injury, Arsenal should have no problems against Fulham.
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Arsenal WIN and UNDER 3.5 goals | $2.25
Arsenal To Score In Both Halves - YES | $1.73
Anytime Goalscorer - Saka | $2.11 |
Predicted Lineups
Arsenal: Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Saka, Nketiah, Martinelli
Fulham: Leno; Tete, Diop, Bassey, Robinson; Palhinha, Reed; Wilson, Pereira, De Cordova Reid; Jimenez
Brentford vs. Crystal Palace
Gtech Community Stadium, 12:00 AM, Sunday, August 27
Crystal Palace and Brentford will both stay in London for the second consecutive week this week.
Last week, Palace lost a hard-fought game 1-0 at home to Arsenal. Brentford was also away last week, but they achieved a much better result and beat Fulham 3-0.
Even though Palace didn’t score last week, goals for both teams should be on your mind heading in this match. Only Brighton and Wolves have taken more shots than Palace so far this season, and Brentford are second in the league in xG. Admittedly, it’s very early in the season, but if we look back to last year, it makes sense to predict goals this weekend.
Besides goals, you should expect an evenly matched game. If we had to pick one team, we’d give Brentford a slight edge thanks to their home-pitch advantage, but a draw is more likely.
Predicted Lineups
Brentford: Flekken; Hickey, Collins, Pinnock, Henry; Janelt, Norgaard, Jensen; Mbeumo, Wissa, Schade
Crystal Palace: Johnstone; Ward, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell; Doucoure, Lerma; Ayew, Eze, Schlupp; Edouard
Everton vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers
Goodison Park, 12:00 AM, Sunday, August 27
Both Everton and Wolves were unlucky to not get anything from their week one matchups against Fulham and Manchester United. Things were much different in week two. Everton were thrashed 4-0 by Villa and Wolves were thoroughly outclassed by Brighton in a 4-1 loss at home.
With as poor as these two teams are, it’s hard to predict anything from this match. Most sports betting sites have odds pretty even for this match, but Everton have the benefit of playing at home though, so we are inclined to back them. Everyone knows how raucous the Goodson crowd can be, even at the worst of times.
Wolves being without Matheus Nunes due to red card suspension and Sean Dyche’s experience advantage over Wolves’ Gary O'Neil are other reasons why we are picking Everton to come out on top this weekend.
Predicted Lineups
Everton: Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Patterson; Gueye, Doucouré, Garner, Onana, Dobbin; Danjuma
Wolves: Sá; Dawson, Semedo, Kilman, Aït-Nouri; Lemina, Sarabia, Gomes, Neto; Cunha, Hwang
Manchester United vs. Nottingham Forest
Old Trafford, 12:00 AM, Sunday, August 27
Manchester United’s decision to terminate Mason Greenwood’s contract has rightfully dominated the headlines this week. That paired with the Red Devils’ poor form on the field has many casual fans doubting Erik Ten Hag and his men ahead of their match this weekend.
However, most Australian betting sites think otherwise and that Manchester United will be fine against Forest. PlayUp has United as big favourites with $1.30 odds. We agree with them.
Nottingham Forest looked good last week against a lowly Sheffield United side they needed to beat, but they simply do not have enough talent or midfield strength to exploit Manchester United’s glaring weaknesses. Based on the first two games, Mason Mount out with injury might actually help address Manchester’s weaknesses in midfield.
Manchester United should win and do so convincingly.
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Manchester United WIN and UNDER 3.5 goals | $2.25
Both Teams To Score - NO | $1.90
UNDER 3.5 goals | $2.30 |
Predicted Lineups
Manchester United: Onana; Shaw, Martinez, Varane, Wan-Bissaka; Eriksen, Casemiro, Garnacho; Fernandes, Antony, Rashford
Nottingham Forest: Turner; McKenna, Worrall, Boly; Aurier, Mangala, Danilo, Williams; Gibbs-White, Awoniyi, Johnson
Brighton and Hove Albion vs. West Ham United
Amex Stadium, 2:30 AM, Sunday, August 27
Brighton come into matchweek three top of the table following two successive 4-1 victories over Luton Town and Wolves, respectively. The Seagulls’ performances in those matches were just as impressive as their score lines.
West Ham were not as impressive as Brighton in their first two matches, but they did manage a smash-and-grab 3-1 victory over Chelsea last weekend.
Based on current season form, Brighton should win. If you go back to past results between these clubs, the Seagulls should still win. Brighton have not lost to the Hammers since 2012 when both teams were in the Championship.
The only question we have about this match is just how many goals Brighton will score. Scoring four again will be a big ask for the Seagulls, but we wouldn’t put it past them. Brighton have the firepower to win big, and we think they will.
Predicted Lineups
Brighton: Steele; Milner, Webster, Dunk, Estupinan; Gross, Gilmour; March, Pedro, Mitoma; Welbeck
West Ham: Areola; Areola, Zouma, Ogbonna, Emerson; Soucek, Paqueta, Ward-Prowse; Bowen, Antonio, Benrahma
Burnley vs. Aston Villa
Turf Moor, 11:00 PM, Sunday, August 27
Burnley and Aston Villa face off this weekend in this season’s first battle of claret and blue clubs. Villa demolished Everton 4-0 last week. Burnley spent the weekend watching Premier League football like the rest of us due to their match against Luton Town being postponed.
Time off could play a big role in this match as Villa are sure to have tired legs from their midweek 5-0 victory against Hibernian in the Europa Conference League. Burnley will have two weeks of rest, which is plenty of time for Vincent Kompany to come up with a plan to get all three points.
Injuries to Villa’s defence, like Tyrone Mings’ unfortunate ACL injury, leaves them very thin and unable to rotate at key positions. We back Burnley to take advantage of this and get at least a point in this match.
Predicted Lineups
Burnley: Trafford; Roberts, O’Shea, Al-Dakhil, Vitinho; Berge, Cullen; Koleosho, Bruun Larsen, Foster; Amdouni
Aston Villa: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Kamara, Luiz; McGinn, Bailey, Diaby, Watkins
Sheffield United vs. Manchester City
Bramall Lane, 11:00 PM, Sunday, August 27
Despite the massive differences in quality between Manchester City and Sheffield United’s squads in recent seasons, this matchup has produced some surprisingly tight results. The Citizens have shut out the Blades in each of their last four Premier League meetings. Three of those four matches were just 1-0 wins for City. The fourth was a 2-0 win for the Sky Blues.
Unfortunately for Sheffield United, Man City have improved leaps and bounds since those results. The Blades got a taste of this first hand in the FA Cup last season when they were quickly brushed aside in a 3-0 defeat to Man City.
It’s worth noting Man City will be without their manager, Pep Guardiola, on the sidelines as the Spaniard will be out of the country getting back surgery.
Even without Pep, Man City should win big. As harsh as it is to say, Sheffield United will be lucky to even score.
Predicted Lineups
Sheffield United: Foderingham; Robinson, Egan, Ahmedhodzic; Osborn, Souza, Norwood, Lowe; Traore, Hamer; Osula
Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Akanji, Ake; Rodri, Kovacic; Palmer, Foden, Grealish; Haaland
Newcastle United vs. Liverpool
St. James' Park, 1:30 AM, Monday, August 28
Liverpool beat Bournemouth 3-1 last weekend. Judging by the score line, you would think it was a fairly routine victory for the Reds. On one hand, you’d be right. On the other hand Liverpool's defence and midfield still don’t look as solid as many expected they would this season. This could be a problem for their top four challenge this season and their match against Newcastle this weekend.
Newcastle started the season strong with a 5-1 drubbing of Aston Villa. They fell back down to earth slightly last week against City, where they lost 1-0. However, despite the loss to the defending champions, Newcastle looked strong.
The outcome of this match depends on whether Newcastle’s forwards show up. If they do, we have a shootout. If they don’t, Liverpool’s quality should see them through. Because we don’t know which forwards will show up, a draw is our pick for this match.
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Both Teams To Score - YES | $1.42
Draw No Bet - Liverpool | $2.25
Draw No Bet - Liverpool | $2.18 |
Predicted Lineups
Newcastle: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Almiron, Isak, Gordon
Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Endo, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Salah, Jota, Diaz
