West Ham vs. Chelsea
London Stadium, 9:30 PM, Saturday, September 21
West Ham come into this one off the back of a London Derby draw with Fulham, while Chelsea survived a scare from Bournemouth to get all three points last week.
The Hammers have failed to live up their early-season hype so far this year, with just one win in four matches. Chelsea are right around where we expected them to be, in eighth. Both sides look very much to be works in progress right now. This should be a close fixture.
Chelsea have won three of their last five against West Ham, though, and have looked better overall this season, so we’re giving them the edge. Our EPL betting tips have both teams scoring though, as both sides have scored in six of West Ham’s last eight matches.
Our final pick is 2-1 to Chelsea.
Predicted Lineups
West Ham: Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Kilman, Coufal; Rodriguez, Alvarez; Bowen, Paqueta, Kudus; Antonio
Chelsea: Sanchez; Disasi, Fofan, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Madueke, Palmer, Neto; Jackson
Aston Villa vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers
Villa Park, 12:00 AM, Sunday, September 22
While they have been entertaining so far this season, Wolves are struggling to put results together. Gary O’Neil’s side have won just one of their last 14 Premier League matches. They currently sit in 18th place in the league table.
Aston Villa are in fifth, and look like strong contenders to qualify for European soccer again this season. Unai Emery’s men proved they belong in the Champions League midweek with a 3-0 win over Young Boys. The Villains played a rotated team in that match, so they should be relatively fresh to take on Wolves.
These are traditionally low-scoring matches, with four of the last five having over 2.5 goals. We expect more of the same this week as Wolves will probably be shutting up shop more than usual after their slow start.
Our pick is a 2-0 Aston Villa win.
Predicted Lineups
Aston Villa: Martinez; Bogarde, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Onana, Tielemans; McGinn, Rogers, Ramsay; Watkins
Wolves: Johnstone; Semedo, Mosquera, Dawson, Toti; Gomes, Lemina; Bellegarde, Cunha, Hee-chan; Strand Larsen
Fulham vs. Newcastle
Craven Cottage, 12:00 AM, Sunday, September 22
The soccer betting sites think this will be a close match. Some bookmakers even have Fulham as favourites. We could not disagree more.
Newcastle have won six straight matches against Fulham in all competitions. Both these sides are weaker than they have been in the past, but the Magpies still have a significant leg up talent-wise. Eddie Howe’s team will also be more rested with Fulham playing against Preston North End in the League Up on Tuesday.
Fulham's only win of the season so far was against Leicester. Newcastle, meanwhile, are undefeated with wins against Southampton, Tottenham, and Wolves.
This should be a relatively straightforward 2-1 win for Newcastle.
Predicted Lineups
Fulham: Leno; Tete, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Pereira, Lukic; Traore, Smith-Rowe, Iwobi; Jimenez
Newcastle: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Isak, Gordon
Leicester City vs. Everton
King Power Stadium, 12:00 AM, Sunday, September 22
We are only four games into the 2024/25 season, but it is safe to say that Everton are in big trouble. The Toffees have lost all four matches so far and have the league’s worst goal differential. They aren’t doing much better when it comes to advanced stats either. Only Ipswich has a worse xG goal differential.
It’s too early to give up on Everton completely just yet, but with the injuries to their backline and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin out of form, it is tough to see them getting a win any time soon.
Leicester City haven’t looked great so far this season either, but they have the home field advantage and good recent record against Everton. The Foxes have won four of their last five against the Toffees.
For some reason, we can’t pick a winner though. A 2-2 draw is our pick. If you want a safer bet, go with OVER 2.5 goals.
Predicted Lineups
Leicester: Hermansen; Justin, Faes, Okoli, Kristiansen; Skipp, Winks; Ayew, Buonanotte,Mavidi; Vardy
Everton: Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko; Harrison, Gueye, Irogbunam, McNeil, Ndiaye; Calvert-Lewin
Liverpool vs. Bournemouth
Anfield, 12:00 AM, Sunday, September 22
Liverpool suffered their first loss at home of this season last week to Nottingham Forest. Arne Slot’s side were unlucky not to get at least a point, but they were far from at their best in that match. The Reds quickly rebounded with an impressive 3-1 win over Milan in the Champions League. They should do well against Bournemouth this weekend.
The Cherries could have easily won at home against Chelsea last week. On the road against Liverpool, it will be a different story. Bournemouth have won just three of their last 12 matches away from home. They have never gotten a win at Anfield. To make matters worse, the Cherries have conceded in six straight matches.
Our EPL predictions have this being a convincing 2-0 to Liverpool. It could easily be a bigger win for the Reds though. We are being conservative because Bournemouth are a good side and Liverpool will be tired from their UCL match.
Predicted Lineups
Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Jota
Bournemouth: Travers; Smith, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Christie, Cook; Semenyo, Kluivert, Tavernier; Evanilson
Southampton vs. Ipswich Town
St. Mary's Stadium, 12:00 AM, Sunday, September 22
Through four Premier League matches, Southampton have been one of the most sterile teams in recent memory. The Saints have scored just one goal, despite averaging 62% possession over those four matches.
Ipswich Town, on the other hand, have adapted to being EPL minnows and have focused on being a counter attacking side. They should get plenty of chances to counter with the Saints dominating the ball high up the pitch.
Recent history favours the Tractor Boys too. Ipswich won both of their matches against Southampton in the Championship last season. The Saints had 62% possession across those two matches.
Our pick is Ipswich to win 1-0.
Predicted Lineups
Southampton: Ramsdale; Sugawara, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Walker-Peters; Downes, Ugochukwu; Aribo, Fernandes, Brereton-Diaz; Archer
Ipswich: Muric; Tuanzebe, Woolfenden, Greaves, Davis; Morsy, Phillips; Ogbene, Szmodics, Hutchinson; Delap
Tottenham vs. Brentford
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 12:00 AM, Sunday, September 22
Both teams come into this off league losses–Tottenham to Arsenal and Brentford to Man City–but they should view this match as a winnable one.
Week-after-week Tottenham fail to turn things around, and we’re starting to really worry about their inability to score goals. Brentford, meanwhile, consistently look impressive and are tough to beat no matter the opponent.
Brentford’s Yoane Wissa will unfortunately miss this match after suffering an ankle injury that will keep him out for months. For Spurs, Richarlison and Yves Bissouma are questionable to return.
The Bees have conceded in each of their last three matches. While Spurs’ defence isn’t great either, we can’t see Brentford keeping up with Tottenham offensively without Wissa. We’re going with 2-1 to Spurs here.
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
UNDER 3.5 Goals | $1.70 | |
Brentford Goals Range - Between 1 & 2 Inclusive | $1.60 | |
Tottenham WIN & Both Teams To Score - YES | $2.55 |
Predicted Lineups
Tottenham: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Sarr, Bentancur; Kulusevski, Maddison, Son; Solanke
Brentford: Flekken, Van Den Berg, Collins, Pinnock, Ajer; Damsgaard, Norgaard, Janelt; Mbeumo, Schade, Carvalho
Crystal Palace vs. Manchester United
Selhurst Park, 2:30 AM, Sunday, September 22
Crystal Palace drew 2-2 with fellow relegation candidates Leicester City thanks to a 92nd-minute penalty from Jean-Philippe Mateta. The Eagles’ winless record is misleading, as they’ve actually been pretty solid. This is backed up by their xG differential, which has Palace as firmly mid-table.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are probably where they should be. The Red Devils xG differential is high, top-four in the league, but they really have not looked good so far this season. They are inconsistent and lacking tactical identity. In other words, they look like they did last season. A 3-0 win over Southampton doesn’t excuse that.
Palace have conceded first in five of their last seven matches and both teams have scored in eight of their last ten. Four of the last five Man Utd matches have featured over 2.5 goals. We back all of these trends to continue this week.
Our EPL predictions have Manchester United scoring first and getting a 2-1 win.
Predicted Lineups
Palace: Henderson; Clyne, Guehi, Lacroix; Munoz, Wharton, Doucoure, Mitchell; Kamada, Mateta, Eze
Man Utd: Onana; Mazroui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Ugarte, Mainoo; Diallo, Fernandes, Rashford; Zirkzee
Brighton vs. Nottingham Forest
American Express Stadium, 11:00 PM, Sunday, September 22
Brighton suffered their first really disappointing result of the season in Matchweek 4 with their 0-0 draw against Ipswich Town. Fabian Hurzeler and the Seagulls will be on a mission to make things right as soon as possible. Nottingham Forest will not make it easy for them though.
Last week, Forest got their first win at Anfield versus Liverpool since February 1969. It was a bit of a smash-and-grab, but it’s hard to say that Forest didn’t deserve all three points. Nuno Espirito Santo seems to have cracked the code to getting the Reds back to their counter-attacking best.
Brighton won both of their matches against Forest last season. They will be coming into this one following a midweek fixture against Wolves. Given their injuries, and the challenges he Seagulls had with balancing midweek matches last year, a win here will be tough for Brighton. Our pick is a 1-1 draw.
Predicted Lineups
Brighton: Verbruggen; Veltman, Van Hecke, Dunk, Kadioglu; Ayari, Baleba; Minteh, Pedro, Mitoma; Welbeck
Forest: Sels; Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Aina; Yates, Ward-Prowse; Dominguez, Gibbs-White, Anderson; Wood
Manchester City vs. Arsenal
Etihad Stadium, 1:30 AM, Monday, September 23
Arsenal survived the North London Derby last week against Tottenham without Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. Rice will be back for this one, but we can’t see them getting a result against Manchester City here.
City suffered an early scare against Brentford, before returning to their dominant selves and beating the Bees 2-1 in Matchweek 4. They are the only team in the league with a perfect record. They have not lost at home in normal time since November 2022. Arsenal, specifically, haven’t won at the Etihad since January 2015.
As good as City are, they are not invincible. They have conceded a goal in each of their last three matches and failed to win any of their three matches against Arsenal last season.
This should be a tight, thrilling encounter between the Premier League’s top two sides. Our EPL predictions have City getting the job done and winning 2-1.
Predicted Lineups
Man City: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Akanji, Gvardiol; Kovacic, Silva; Savio, De Bruyne, Doku; Haaland
Arsenal: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber; Rice, Partey; Saka, Havertz, Martinelli; Trossard
