Aston Villa vs. Brighton and Hove Albion
Villa Park, 9:30 PM, Saturday, September 30
Aston Villa and Brighton are two of the best non-Big-6 clubs in the Premier League. They showed this last week with two impressive victories over Chelsea and Bournemouth, respectively.
Part of the reason both these clubs are so good is because of their managers. Unai Emery is an incredibly smart manager who knows how to build adaptable and solid squads. Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, meanwhile, is one of the best attacking managers in the world. As good as De Zerbi is, his teams have struggled to break down defensively-minded opponents, and it’s possible that this problem could show up this weekend.
Both Brighton and Villa will have played midweek competitions for the past two weeks. We expect to see signs of fatigue and rotated squads on Saturday. This favours Villa, because Emery’s squad has the ability to shut down and play defensive soccer when necessary. Brighton, meanwhile, will be trying to play their usual high-tempo style.
Playing tired and in front of a hostile Villa Park crowd, we think this is a losing recipe for the Seagulls.

Predicted Lineups

Brighton: Steele; Lamptey, Dunk, Webster, Estupinan; Gilmour, Dahoud; March, Pedro, Mitoma; Ferguson
Bournemouth vs. Arsenal
Vitality Stadium, 12:00 AM, Sunday, October 1
Arsenal were able to get a victory at home in last weekend’s North London Derby match against Tottenham, but most betting sites back them to win against Bournemouth away on Saturday. PlayUP gives the Gunners 1.50 odds. Some new betting sites have their odds as low as 1.44. Are these odds fair? We think so.
Bournemouth have looked good in some matches this season under new manager Andoni Iraola, but they still have a long way to go before they can compete with the big boys like Arsenal. The Cherries’ players look like they still do not have a complete grasp on Iraola’s pressing system. Arsenal should be able to take advantage of this and win on Saturday.
With all that being said, Arsenal are suffering a bit of an injury crisis in midfield and defence. Bukayo Saka may be out, and while Gabriel Martinelli could return, Leandro Trossard is unlikely to feature. Moreover, Bournemouth’s direct style of play could see them score at least one goal.

Predicted Lineups
Bournemouth: Neto; Aarons, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Cook, Christie, Billing; Brooks, Solanke, Kluivert
Arsenal: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Odegaard, Rice, Havertz; Saka, Jesus, Martinelli
Everton vs. Luton Town
Goodison Park, 12:00 AM, Sunday, October 1
Everton stunned Brentford 3-1 last week thanks to a great first half from Abdoulaye Doucouré and a brilliant Dominic Calvert-Lewin performance off the bench. Luton Town also managed to pull off an upset last week when they nicked a point off of a 10-man Wolves side, courtesy of a penalty following a controversial handball decision.
As bad as Everton are, Luton Town will need more luck to go their way if they are going to beat the Toffees. Everton have looked absolutely dreadful until recently under Sean Dyche, but Calvert-Lewin’s return and their win at Brentford should give them cause for optimism.
Even without Calvert-Lewin, Everton probably have enough to beat Luton. The Hatters were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League One side Exeter City on Tuesday. If Exeter City can beat Luton right now, Everton should be able to this weekend.
Predicted Lineups
Everton: Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; McNeil, Onana, Gueye, Doucoure; Beto, Calvert-Lewin
Luton Town: Kaminski; Burke, Lockyer, Bell; Kabore, Sambi Lokanga, Nakamba, Giles; Brown, Morris, Adebayo
Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace
Old Trafford, 12:00 AM, Sunday, October 1
Manchester United battered Crystal Palace 3-0 on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup. Unfortunately for Red Devils fans, we do not think it will be so easy this weekend. Palace rested several key players and were thrown off-kilter early on when goalkeeper Dean Henderson went off injured after just 19 minutes of action. To be fair to United, Erik ten Hag also rested some key players.
One player who did not feature on Tuesday and will not this weekend is Jadon Sancho. The English winger has reportedly been completely frozen out of the squad following a dispute with manager Erik ten Hag. It does not appear like this scandal has affected Man U’s squad much, but it does limit ten Hag’s options on the right wing with Antony already out of action.
Despite the off-field drama, Manchester United have the talent to beat Palace, especially at home. Look for Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, and Bruno Fernandes to bring their A-game after some disappointing results of late.
Predicted Lineups
Man Utd: Onana; Dalot, Varane, Lindelof, Amrabat; Casemiro, Eriksen, Mount; Garnacho, Hojlund, Rashford
Crystal Palace: Johnstone; Ward, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell; Doucoure, Hughes; Ayew, Eze, Schlupp; Edouard
Newcastle United vs. Burnley
St. James' Park, 12:00 AM, Sunday, October 1
Newcastle United put an astonishing eight goals past Sheffield United last weekend. Burnley meanwhile gave up just one goal to Manchester United at home.
Without wanting to be too harsh, Vincent Kompany’s Burnley appear to be a one-trick pony. The Clarets are committed to playing possession football and playing it out of the back. It has not worked out for them so far, however, and likely will not work this weekend against a far superior Newcastle team.
Newcastle have too much midfield talent to be cut apart by Burnley’s possession football. The Magpies are also efficient pressing in tight spaces. All this equals problems for Burnley. Newcastle probably will not score eight goals again, but they should win this one easily.

West Ham United vs. Sheffield United
London Stadium, 12:00 AM, Sunday, October 1
According to the betting sites, West Ham vs. Sheffield United is one of the most lopsided fixtures of EPL Matchweek 7. It is hard to disagree with the bookies, considering the Blades 8-0 loss last week and the Hammers’ strong start to the season.
There is not much analysis needed for this match. West Ham should win and probably by at least two goals. Even if you like to back underdog bets, we would still not suggest betting on Sheffield United. However, the under might be an attractive option for you.
Before playing Newcastle, the Blades had looked surprisingly solid defensively. We expect them to park the bus against West Ham and do whatever it takes to avoid another embarrassing loss. David Moyes’s team don’t play terribly attacking football either, so it’s relatively likely this game ends 1-0 or 2-0, even if it’s a dominant performance from the Irons.
Predicted Lineups
West Ham: Areola; Coufal, Zouma, Aguerd, Emerson; Soucek, Alvarez, Ward-Prowse, Paqueta; Bowen, Antonio
Sheff Utd: Foderingham; Ahmedhodžić, Egan, Robinson; Bogle, Norwood, Souza, Thomas; McAtee, Hamer; Archer
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Manchester City
Molineux Stadium, 12:00 AM, Sunday, October 1
Wolves could only manage a point from lowly Luton Town last weekend. Things went even worse for Wolverhampton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday when they were knocked out of the competition by Ipswich Town. In our opinion, Wolves have no chance against Man City.
The Cityzens are going through a minor midfield crisis, with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne injured and Rodri suspended. However, they still should be able to have a comfortable day out at Molineux Stadium and come back home with all three points.
Pep Guardiola will probably play a rotated side due to injuries and City’s midweek clash against Newcastle. It would not be surprising to see former Wolves player Matheus Nunes get the start against his old club.
No matter what lineup Pep chooses, City should win.
Predicted Lineups
Wolves: Sa; Semedo, Dawson, Kilman, Ait-Nouri; Lemina, Gomes; Neto, Cunha, Hwang; Silva
Man City: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Gvardiol, Lewis; Nunes, Kovacic; Foden, Alvarez, Doku; Haaland
Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 3:30 AM, Sunday, October 1
Liverpool are undefeated against Tottenham in their last 12 matches across all competitive competitions. You have to go all the way back to 2017 to find a Spurs victory against Liverpool.
A lot has changed for both clubs since 2017. More importantly, a lot has changed for Tottenham since last season. Australian manager Ange Postecoglou has Spurs looking like one of the best teams in England.
Liverpool’s defence has settled a bit in recent games. However, those recent performances have not eliminated all the doubt from our minds. We still think the Reds’ defence is capable of committing howlers and giving away goals.
If Spurs’ defence can hold Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, and the rest of Liverpool’s attack to just one or two goals, we back Spurs to get at least a point in this match. We think backing Tottenham to win or draw is a solid bet.

Predicted Lineups
Tottenham: Vicario; Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma; Kulusevski, Maddison, Johnson; Son
Liverpool: Alisson; Gomez, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Nunez, Diaz
Nottingham Forest vs. Brentford
The City Ground, 12:00 AM, Monday, October 2
The betting agencies are starting to take notice of Nottingham Forest. Despite Brentford seeming the better and more talented side on paper, virtually all betting sites in Australia have Steve Cooper’s Reds with nearly equal odds as Brentford. This is probably due to Brentford’s loss against Everton last weekend and because Brentford will play midweek Carabao Cup game against Arsenal while Nottingham Forest will not have a midweek game.
Being more rested and in better form are good reasons to back Nottingham Forest. If you add in Forest’s strong home form, they really should be favourites. With all that being said, we still back Brentford to make life difficult for the Reds.
The Bees’ loss against Everton was a fluke, and we’d be surprised if Brentford made it two upset losses in a row. Our best bet for this one? A draw.

Nottm Forest: Turner; Aina, Boly, Worrall, Tavares; Gibbs-White, Sangare, Mangala, Dominguez; Hudson-Odoi, Awoniyi
Brentford: Flekken; Roerslev, Collins, Pinnock, Hickey; Jensen, Norgaard, Ajer; Mbeumo, Wissa, Lewis-Potter
Fulham vs. Chelsea
Craven Cottage, 6:00 AM, Tuesday, October 3
West London derbies are always cause for excitement. For Chelsea though, getting a good result against Fulham is going to be absolutely essential.
The Blues have looked one of the worst teams in the league, and seem completely unable to score goals consistently. They are quickly approaching make-or-break territory for the rest of their season. Chelsea’s next nine games are against very difficult opponents. Only Fulham and Burnley look like winnable matches for the Blues. If they falter against Fulham, Chelsea’s season could spiral into truly dangerous territory.
Because this game is so important, we think Chelsea will finally get a win and show their class. Fulham can be tough opposition, but they are very inconsistent, so we think this is a good opportunity for Chelsea to get their season on track.
Predicted Lineups
Fulham: Leno; Castagne, Diop, Ream, Robinson; Reed, Palhinha, Pereira, Wilson, Jimenez, Willian
Chelsea: Sanchez; Diasi, Silva, Colwill; Caicedo, Fernandez, Gallagher, Chilwell; Sterling, Palmer; Jackson
