Luton Town vs. Tottenham Hotspur
Kenilworth Road, 9:30 PM, Saturday, October 7
Luton Town achieved their first Premier League victory of the season last weekend away at Everton. Their celebrations were unfortunately cut short on Tuesday when the Hatters lost 2-1 to Burnley at home.
Tottenham came away with a 2-1 win against Liverpool last weekend in a match that involved a controversial VAR decision that incorrectly ruled off a Liverpool goal due to offsides. Thankfully for Spurs, they will not need help from the referees to get past Luton.
Ange Postecoglou’s men currently sit second in the EPL table. Players like Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, and Yves Bissouma have taken to the Australian’s system like ducks to water. Spurs should easily handle Luton. If other results hold, Tottenham could even find themselves sitting at the top of the table come the end of the weekend.
Predicted Lineups
Luton Town: Kaminski; Burke, Lockyer, Bell; Kabore, Ruddock, Nakamba, Doughty; Brown, Barkley; Morris
Tottenham: Vicario; Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma; Kulusevski, Maddison, Son; Richarlison
Burnley vs. Chelsea
Turf Moor, 12:00 AM, Sunday, October 8
Burnley finally got their first win of the season this week thanks to their 2-1 win over Luton Town on Tuesday. We say finally because the Clarets have looked much better than their results would indicate. Vincent Kompany’s men are committed to playing out of the back and playing risky, possession football. Unfortunately for them, their squad does not have the talent to play this way against big sides.
Chelsea, despite all their struggles, are still a big side. The Blues proved this on Monday with a decisive 2-0 win over Fulham where Mykhailo Mudryk and Armando Broja scored within two minutes of each other. This was the club’s second straight victory, and some are saying the “real Chelsea” is back.
We are not so convinced, but even if the “real Chelsea” is not back, the Blues should beat Burnley.
Predicted Lineups
Burnley: Trafford; Roberts, Al-Dakhil, Beyer, Taylor; Cullen, Berge, Brownhill; Koleosho, Foster, Amdouni
Chelsea: Sanchez; Cucurella, Diasi, Silva, Colwill; Gallagher, Caicedo, Fernandez; Sterling, Broja, Mudryk
Everton vs. Bournemouth
Goodison Park, 12:00 AM, Sunday, October 8
Everton suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Luton Town last week. Despite this disastrous result, the vast majority of betting sites have the Toffees as favourites against Bournemouth. We think this is a mistake and something you can take advantage of this weekend. This is a great chance to back an underdog team.
It is true that Bournemouth are currently in the relegation zone and have yet to record a win this season. When you look at who the Cherries have played, this is understandable. Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth have played just two teams outside of the top ten. Those teams were Brentford and Chelsea, who will probably finish the season in the top half.
Bournemouth are better than their record. We back them to get something away at Everton. If Luton can do it, the Cherries should be able to.
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Draw No Bet - Bournemouth | $2.75
Both Teams To Score - YES | $1.75
Double Chance - Bournemouth WIN or Draw | $1.88 |
Predicted Lineups
Everton: Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Garner, Onana, Gueye, McNeil; Doucoure, Calvert-Lewin
Bournemouth: Neto; Aarons, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Christie, Cook; Tavernier, Billing, Kluivert; Solanke
Fulham vs. Sheffield United
Craven Cottage, 12:00 AM, Sunday, October 8
Fulham play at home for the second straight week. Last week, they lost 0-2 versus Chelsea in, frankly, what was a very dull match outside of a goal-packed two minutes for Chelsea in the first half. The Cottagers should have a better chance of winning this week, but we cannot promise you that it will not be a boring match.
After a promising start to the season with some unlucky results, Paul Heckingbottom’s Sheffield United side have fallen off a cliff. The Blades are on a three-match losing streak, have the worst goal differential in the league, and are at the bottom of the table.
Despite all that, it would not be surprising to us to see Sheffield United close up shop and come away with a 0-0 draw. We would not bet on it though. Fulham should win this match.
Predicted Lineups
Fulham: Leno; Castagne, Diop, Ream, Robinson; Reed, Palhinha, Pereira; Wilson, Jimenez, Willian
Sheff Utd: Foderingham; Ahmedhodžić, Egan, Robinson; Bogle, Hamer, Souza, McAtee, Thomas; Archer, Brewster
Manchester United vs. Brentford
Old Trafford, 12:00 AM, Sunday, October 8
A dominating 3-0 victory in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace last Tuesday had many Manchester United fans feeling like Erik ten Hag had finally turned the ship around. As Manchester United often do, the club brought those good feelings to a halt. Since beating Palace, the Red Devils have lost two consecutive matches, including one to Palace in the Premier League at home last weekend.
Injuries have also continued to hurt ManU. News just broke that Argentine centre-back Lisandro Martinez will be out for an extended period of time due to a foot injury. This is a big loss in the middle for Manchester United.
Brentford, meanwhile, also suffered a disappointing result last weekend when they could only manage to get one point from their fixture against Nottingham Forest. The Bees currently sit in 14th place. They are by no means relegation candidates, but it may be time to start worrying about Brentford.
As tough as it is to say, we back Manchester United to win this match.
Predicted Lineups
Man Utd: Onana; Dalot, Varane, Lindelof, Amrabat; Casemiro, Mount; Pellistri, Fernandes, Rashford; Hojilund
Brentford: Flekken; Ajer, Collins, Pinnock, Hickey; Jensen, Norgaard, Janelt; Mbeumo, Wissa, Lewis-Potter
Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest
Selhurst Park, 2:30 AM, Sunday, October 8
76-year-old Roy Hodgson continues to get things done for Palace this season. Hodgson’s Eagles side beat Manchester United 1-0 last week and currently find themselves 9th in the Premier League. With players like Eberechi Eze and Cheick Doucouré, Hodgson’s side can play attacking football or lock things down and play defensively. This makes them a very dangerous side for most opponents. They are one of the most fun teams to watch at the moment.
Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest have a lot of the same qualities as Palace, but where they are lacking makes them underdogs in this match. Compared to Palace, Forest lack consistency and talent. We think this will show true this weekend.
Palace should win at home and continue their strong start to the season.
Predicted Lineups
Crystal Palace: Johnstone: Ward, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell; Doucoure, Hughes; Ayew, Eze, Schlupp; Edouard
Nottm Forest: Turner; Aurier, Boly, Murillo, Toffolo; Sangare, Mangala, Dominguez; Elanga, Awoniyi, Hudson-Odoi
Brighton and Hove Albion vs. Liverpool
Amex Stadium, 11:00 PM, Sunday, October 8
In case you have not heard, Liverpool lost 2-1 to Tottenham last weekend. This match was marred by a number of controversial refereeing decisions, including a play where a goal was incorrectly ruled offside due to a severe miscommunication between the VAR and the on-field referee.
Besides the poor refereeing performance, Liverpool actually played quite well. This is why it is so unfortunate for them that they are playing Brighton in EPL Matchweek 8.
Brighton are a tough side for any team to play, but they are especially tough following a poor performance. The Seagulls famously lost 5-1 to Everton last season before demolishing Arsenal 3-0 the next week. Roberto De Zerbi’s men lost 6-1 to Aston Villa last week and will be looking to set the record straight against Liverpool.
Brighton play midweek against Marseille. Liverpool fans should be hoping this takes some energy away from the Seagulls. If it does not, Brighton should win easily.
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
OVER 3.5 Goals | $1.88 | |
Draw No Bet - Liverpool | $1.65
Double Chance - Brighton WIN or Draw | $1.70 |
Predicted Lineups
Brighton: Steele; Veltman, van Hecke, Dunk, Estupinan; Dahoud, Gilmour; March, Pedro, Mitoma; Ferguson
Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Endo, Mac Allister; Salah, Nunez, Diaz
West Ham United vs. Newcastle United
London Stadium, 11:00 PM, Sunday, October 8
West Ham and Newcastle are two of the most interesting teams in the Premier League this season. The Hammers are playing David Moyes’ trademark style of counter-attacking football and getting big results against big sides. Newcastle, under the leadership of Eddie Howe, have continued their strong form from last season and look like real top-four contenders this year.
In our opinion, this is the exact type of game we see West Ham doing well in. Despite playing at home, virtually all betting sites in Australia disagree with us. Newcastle are big favourites at every site. We see their argument, but we back the Hammers to get something out of this match.
West Ham are a talented side that should have plenty of counters against a ball-dominant side like Newcastle. We back the Hammers to get at least a point.
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Draw No Bet - West Ham | $2.40
Both Teams To Score - YES | $1.60
Draw No Bet - West Ham | $2.40 |
Predicted Lineups
West Ham: Areola; Coufal, Zouma, Aguerd. Emerson; Soucek, Alvarez; Bowen, Ward-Prowse, Paqueta; Antonio
Newcastle: Pope; Trippier, Lascelles, Schar, Burn; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Tonali; Almiron, Isak, Gordon
Wolverhampton Wolves vs Aston Villa
Molineux Stadium, 11:00 PM, Sunday, October 8
Wolves stunned Manchester City at home last weekend and continue to prove their doubters wrong. After their 2-1 victory, Wolves are looking far from like the relegation candidates many expected them to be before the season. Hwang Hee-chan and Pedro Neto are good enough players to cause problems for any side and Gary O’Neil has proven himself as a solid defensive manager.
Unfortunately for Wolves, everything they do well, Aston Villa do better. Unai Emery’s side put on a show last weekend and defeated Brighton 6-1 courtesy of an Ollie Watkins hatrick and goals from Douglas Luis and Jacob Ramsay.
Getting six goals again is unlikely, but Villa should be able to beat Wolves this weekend. However, we did predict Wolves to lose last week. If you are looking to fade us this week because of that, Wolves WIN or Draw at BoomBet is a solid bet for you.
Predicted Lineups
Wolves: Sa; Kilman, Dawson, Gomes; Semedo, Gomes, Lemina, Ait-Nouri; Neto, Cunha, Hwang
Aston Villa: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Kamara, Luiz; McGinn, Diaby, Zaniolo; Watkins
Arsenal vs. Manchester City
Emirates Stadium, 1:30 AM, Monday, October 9
Our last EPL Matchweek 8 fixture is by far the biggest match of the week. Arsenal and Man City were the best teams in the Premier League last season and continue to shine this year.
Unlike City, Arsenal are undefeated this season. Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are rightfully among the top contenders this season with most betting sites giving them second-best odds to finish the season as champions.
City lost their first match of the season last weekend against Wolves, but are by no means in the middle of a slump. Pep Guardiola’s men are suffering through a bit of an injury crisis though. Bernardo Silva is a doubt against Arsenal. Rodri will also miss the match due to a red card suspension.
When two sides like this go up against each other, we cannot pick a winner. We think this will end in a draw.
Predicted Lineups
Arsenal: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Rice, Odegaard, Havertz; Saka, Jesus, Trossard
Man City: Ederson; Walker, Akanji, Dias, Ake; Nunes, Kovacic; Foden, Alvarez, Grealish; Haaland
