Saturday Racing Tips Randwick 04/01/25

Another year of Saturday tips gets underway at Randwick on Saturday. The road to the big autumn races is getting us closer to our destination with the betting sites already showing prices for some of the Group 1 races that we have to look forward to in the coming months. This week is only handicap action at Randwick but there are some decent quality races to enjoy. Let’s break down three of these contests and try to find the right winning combinations for the day!

Randwick Race 4 - Toyota Forklifts Handicap (1400m)

BEST BET - #6 - Accredited
A bit of a short one to kick off the year but hopefully Accredited can salute to get us going. He is still on the upgrade, the winner of five of his 12 career starts to this point. Three starts this prep have yielded a second-place run and then a pair of wins, though he is very unfortunate not to be a perfect 3/3 so far this season. He has won from on the speed and from off the pace so he is adaptable enough to be able to take whatever this small field throws at him. Has the potential to improve further at 1400m.

THE DANGER - #2 - Ang Pow
More exposed than the selection but is better than ever judging by his most recent success. That came over this track and distance in a Bm100, a stronger level than the one that he is running against here. Has been pushed up from a rating of 82 to 89 so there is more on his plate from a ratings point of view but these are his conditions. Four wins from eight starts over 1400m has this marked down as his perfect distance and he has the class to get involved.

VALUE BET - #3 - Excelladus
Beaten less than a length and a half in a Listed contest last time out, this is a much easier grade for him here. Could do with some rain falling to maximise his chance with a record of just 1/18 when he has raced on good ground compared to 5/14 when he has raced in the wet. That Listed contest was over 1200m and will be suited to being able to stretch his legs back out to 1400m here. Holds no secrets from anyone in terms of his ability but is a solid performer at this level.

Randwick Race 7 - Precise Air Handicap (1200m)

BEST BET - #7 - Disneck
Once more, he is improving as he moves deeper into this prep. He is 0/5 first up and 1/5 second up but has saluted in both his third and fourth starts. Both of those were over this track and distance so he is very comfortable in these surroundings. All five of his wins have come on good ground and the prevailing conditions are the big advantage that he has over his main market rival. This is a tougher class for him but he is running well enough to be able to defy that.

DANGER - #6 - In Flight
Steps out to 1200m for the first time in her career here but it is a move that should suit. She was a running on fourth on her first start of this prep at Rosehill over 1100m and again, she was doing the best of her work late on in a better handicap than this over the same distance at this track last time out. She is yet to finish out of the frame in her three starts on good ground but she is also yet to win on a surface this fast. She is 3/4 on heavy and boasts two wins in five starts on soft so that just edges the call away from her.

VALUE BET - #9 - Amazing Eagle
Took out a Listed contest over this track and distance back in October on a good surface. He followed that up with a second on a Heavy 10 track at Doomben so he is clearly adaptable. So far, his career has only spanned five runs, winning once, finishing third once and second in his other three starts. Both starts this season have been over this trip of 1200m and he has a nice barrier in two to work from given that he is normally ridden close to the speed.

Randwick Race 10 - Ranvet Handicap (1500m)

BEST BET - #2 - West Of Africa
Ran a screamer from right out the back on his first start of this prep over 1300m at this track a few days before Christmas. The step up to 1500m is going to be a big plus for him as he has a win over 1600m in the past. He has five wins in 19 starts, looking deeply progressive in the process. His most recent success came over this track over 1600m in a Bm 78 which is the same grade as this one. Strangely, he has never won second time up but this might be the time that he puts that right.

DANGER - #13 - Piggyback
Was a little bit disappointing on her first step of this prep. She was only fifth at Warwick Farm in a Bm 72, running in a Bm 78 here. Although she was a perfect 2/2 when first up prior to that, it might be worth giving her another chance here as she has winkers back on. If that is the reason that she was below par in that run, it should be an easy fix and as such, is going to make a big step forward on that run here. She has only had seven starts in her life, winning three of those so there should be more to come from her.

VALUE BET - #4 - Captain Fenkel
An interesting runner heads down to New South Wales after running in Queensland in a better class of race than this one. The best of those came over 1500m when third in a Listed race, beaten a hair over a length on that occasion. If he is able to bring that level of form to a Bm 87 in Sydney, he is going to be a much bigger price than he should be here. Good ground suits him well, with two wins in the five starts that he has made when he has not run in black type company. That gives him a huge chance, running in a handicap here.

The veteran hoop has a ride in eight of the 10 races at Randwick on Saturday afternoon. There are some solid chances amongst them judging on the prices from the horse racing bookmakers. Ford has 111 winners at Randwick in his career, third only to Rosehill and Hawkesbury where he has 117 at each.
