Saturday Racing Tips Randwick 10/02/24

Royal Randwick will see our main Australian horse racing tips this Saturday afternoon, including a $23.00 Roughie.

It is the first weekend of the Autumn Group 1 action but with a short-priced favourite. We are covering that with our Multibet article. Instead, we head to Royal Randwick for our main weekly clash with the horse racing bookmakers, picking out our best of the day, the next best, a roughie for the 10-race card, a jockey to follow, and a multitip here! With lots to discuss, let's get straight to it.

BEST BET - #8 Cirebon
It is unusual for us to go to the well so early on a Saturday card, but this mare has been in ripping form of late and can't be passed by without giving her plenty of support. This will be a quick turnaround for her as she was only in action last Saturday at Canterbury when she just touched off. She had won over that same 1550m track and distance a couple of weeks earlier on a Soft 6 surface, which bodes well for any juice in the ground here. Two wins and a second the three times she has had Reece Jones on top, she can extend that sequence.

THE DANGER - #7 Our Maryanne
She came from last to first to win at Kensington last time out, on her first start of the prep. That was over 1550m - the extra 50m here is a positive, given that she has a win over as far as 1900m already under her belt. She goes on any going and is entitled to strip a little fitter for that run, so it will be interesting to see how she gets on in this bigger field. She will need a strong pace to take her to the line, but it warrants plenty of respect if she gets it.  

VALUE BET  - #5 Invincible Legend
Both starts this prep have come in better company than this, so he will appreciate the drop in grade. He won third up in his last prep, as he is now, so this could be the time that he will be cherry-ripe. He will appreciate any soft staying in the ground as his best form has all come when there has been a bit of wetness. His recent 6th-placed finish at Randwick behind the likes of Amor Victorious and Estadio Mestalla reads well at this level, so he has to be a big player if it remains soft.

BEST BET - #3 Encap
This is an excellent renewal, and Encap did nothing but improve through the spring when he started to understand his job and things went right for him. Runner-up in the Group 1 Golden Rose back in September, he only raced once since then but showed up very well in a recent trial at Warwick Farm when splitting Tiz Invincible and Just Fine. Most of the principals here want further than 1200m, but he looks less likely to be troubled by the trip. 

THE DANGER - #1 Griff
He signed off his last prep with a win in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, overcoming a wide barrier in 15 to make all of the running. That was his best prep form in a 1600m contest, so he will have to show plenty of speed if he gets to the front, dropping to 1200m on his return. With bigger targets waiting ahead for him later in the autumn, he might find at least one has the legs of him on this occasion.  

VALUE BET  - #5 Moravia
His sole win came on debut over 900m, and while his efforts in Group 1 company in the spring were a fair way short of what some of his rivals accomplished, he looks the most natural of them over this 1200m distance to start his autumn campaign. His speed can be used to good effect here against a field who, in general, will want 1600m or even more later on this prep. He lacks the class, but this race being more in his wheelhouse makes him a threat.

BEST BET - #8 Amor Victorious
A big run from Invincible Legend in race one will be a big plus to this gelding's chance much later in the card. He had the run of the race when making a winning first start of the prep over 1400m at this track last time out, but it was a visually impressive win over a horse in second who has saluted himself since. With four wins in his nine career starts, he has been a progressive type already and is a perfect 2/2 on soft, so connections won't mind the ground staying the way it is. 

THE DANGER - #10 Floating
He won on the same January 27 card as Amor Victorious. That was a 2000m contest, back down to 1600m for this race, but he won the Nowra Cup over this distance in December on a soft track. He has some solid form on good ground, but the very best that he has shown has come when it has been soft underfoot, so his chances will be stronger if the conditions remain with a bit of cut in the turf.  

VALUE BET  - #5 The Fortune Teller
It is fair to say that this gelding has been disappointing so far this season, but three of his four runs have come in much stronger company, and all on a faster surface than is forecast here. The return to the ground with some more juice is a huge key to his chances, with all of his best form coming with plenty of soft turf. It is not likely to be quite as deep as he would like at this stage of proceedings, but go back to last April, and he was a Group 3 winner over this track and distance, a form that would give him a massive shout at roughie odds that have been shortening all week.

Only one of his six rides is for his biggest stable of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott on Saturday - Anode is a short-priced favourite for Hyeronimus to put a winner on the board in the second race. He has a pair of rides for the Godolphin and James Cummings combination later on the card, which is always noteworthy as they do not have many who cannot win good races, and one of these was a Group 1 winner on his most recent start.
