BEST BET - #3 Margie’s Boy
Has saluted in three straight starts, including in this BM70 grade last time out. He shapes as if he is well worth a try at 1600m now, hitting the line hard in those 1400m starts. Loves to get his toe in so connections will want to see conditions stay on the soft side for him to be seen to best effect. Generally sits handy enough in his races so The Valley should not be an issue for him and he could not be arriving in better form.
DANGER - #4 Regal Zeus
Bounced out in front at Sandown last time out and was never for catching. He has a nice barrier to work from in three here if connections want to go from the front again. That Sandown contest was the fourth time that Daniel Stackhouse has had the ride on him, winning three of those starts so the pair clearly get on well. The issue with his chance is this track. He has not made the frame in either start at The Valley. If he can be forgiven those, he has plenty in his favour.
VALUE BET - #2 Regal Pom
Never got involved at Caulfield last time when held up a long way back off a slow gallop. Shaped better than is often the case on his first start back when third at Sandown but those two runs take him to 0-14 in his career on his first and second up starts. Third up (as he is here) has seen a win and four second-place finishes from six tries so this is generally when he starts to get his prep rolling. This is very much the right distance and class for him so it is the barrier of 16 that is making him the price that he is. If Ryan Houston can figure that out early on, he has a huge chance to make the frame at big odds.
