After the deluge last week at Randwick, conditions are drying out this Saturday ahead of another afternoon of top-class horse racing.
Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick 13/04/24
Randwick 13/04/24
Randwick hosts Day 2 of the Championships this Saturday and the competitive Group 1 racing has made for some interesting discussions on the betting sites throughout the week. The top-class racing has made for some phenomenal Saturdays so far in the autumn and this is shaping up to be another excellent day of racing.
The Queen Of The Turf, the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, the Australian Oaks and the Sydney Cup will all be run at the weekend so let’s get straight into the action with our tips. They include a $13.00 roughie taking on the Golden Slipper winner!

Randwick Race 4 - TAB Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m)
Selections:
#1 Lady Of Camelot - $2.60
#12 Ameena - $9.00
#13 More Territories (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $13.00
#5 Eneeza - $5.50
BEST BET - #1 Lady Of Camelot
Winner of the Golden Slipper over this same 1200m distance at Rosehill last time out. That was two weeks ago and although she had a hard enough race on that occasion, this is an easier-looking level of opposition that she takes on, dropped back into a Group 2. She has a penalty to carry for that, giving weight away all around, with the majority of her rivals getting four or more kilos from her. Despite that and a wider-than-ideal barrier, she is still very much the one that they all have to beat.
THE DANGER - #12 Ameena
Made a bold bid from the front at Flemington last time out when not able to hold Tobeornottobe. She was on the opposite side of the track and that might not have been ideal as the first and third both stayed closest to the stands while Ameena had to plough her own furrow on the far side from a low barrier. It was still a rock-solid effort and around a right-handed bend from a low barrier is much more likely to see her in a positive light here so she looks the biggest danger in case the favourite underperforms.
VALUE BET - #13 More Territories
The roughie has only been seen in race action once but it was a smart impression that she made when saluting at Kensington. That was over 1100m and she was strongest at the line so the stretch out an extra 100m is going to be a big plus. The runner-up that day had already had four races, including finishing third in a Listed contest so that form looks very strong for a debut effort. She was a roughie that day as well so perhaps it was a shock to connections but she certainly looked well worth a try at this sort of level second up.
Randwick Race 5 - Arrowfield 3yo Sprint (1200m)
Selections:
#1 Ozzmosis (NEXT BEST) - $3.20
#11 Joliestar - $9.00
#12 Learning To Fly - $9.00
#6 Schwarz - $5.50
BEST BET - #1 Ozzmosis
Had no luck on his first start of this prep, stumbling coming out of the barriers with Rachel King doing well to stay in the saddle. By the time they had recovered their equilibrium, they had no chance but he still shaped well, managing to tag back onto the rear of the field before that effort proved too much for him. He was phenomenal when winning the Coolmore Stud in November at Flemington and has an inside barrier here is going to be a plus for one who likes to roll along from the front.
THE DANGER - #11 Joliestar
Not seen since November but she is a huge player first up if she is ready to roll. This trip is a little on the short side for her, last seen when winning the 1000 Guineas at Caulfield over 1600m. Runner-up that day was Kimochi who has a Group 2 win under her belt this prep as well as finishing third in the Coolmore Classic when beaten less than half a length by Zougotcha. That form is strong and she should be doing some good work late off a strong pace.
VALUE BET - #12 Learning To Fly
Missed 11 months after an unfortunate incident in the Golden Slipper last year, reappearing with a close second in the Group 2 Lightfinger. She was just touched off that day in a race won by the aforementioned Kimochi which ties her in closely with Joliestar. Her run in the Group 1 Surround Stakes last time out can be marked up as she was restrained after taking a prominent sit early which in hindsight was a mistake. Back down to 1200m here from 1400m should help as she will be allowed her head and that can see her in the mix.
Randwick Race 10 - Sapphire Stakes (1200m)
Selections:
#1 Red Card (BEST BET) - $2.70
#14 Saltaire - $5.50
#2 C’Est Magique - $10.00
#4 Tashi - $5.50
BEST BET - #1 Red Card
Has a 50% strike rate so far in her career (8/16) and has produced two of her best runs this prep, saluting in both at Rosehill. They have both been on soft ground but she has excellent form on good ground as well so she will not mind how much or how little the ground dries out ahead of Saturday. Beat a fair yardstick in Libertad when winning a Group 3 last time out, making all of the running. There is little pace pressure in this race which is going to be a big plus for all that she has a wider barrier to contend with here.
THE DANGER - #14 Saltaire
Has only managed to get her head in front once in 11 career starts but she has filled the runner-up spot on four occasions and third twice so she is a consistent sort. Third in a Listed contest at Flemington on her first run of this prep, the two she chased home (Estriella and Arkansaw Kid) are both smart types. This is a deeper contest in theory as a Group 2 but it does not look the deepest race for the grade so she should be right in the mix given that her only career win came second up.
VALUE BET - #2 C’Est Magique
Another who has struggled to get her head in front but she has kept some solid Group 3 company so far this prep. She never managed to get over from a wide barrier on her most recent start at Rosehill so that is easy enough to put a line through. She has also failed to finish in the first three in her three prior runs when third up which that Rosehill run was. Second and third in her two previous runs at Randwick suggests that she is going to appreciate the return to this course.
