Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm 15/06/24

The third Saturday of the Queensland Carnival at Eagle Farm has some smart action on a card with two Group 1 races and nothing lower than a Listed-level race. It is an excellent afternoon of racing in store as we look to take on the horse racing bookmakers with our tips. There could be a good opportunity for a roughie in the Stradbroke Handicap, the big contest of the day, with so many at the shortest odds in the race drawn in wide barriers so we are taking on the market with a $15.00 shot.

BEST BET - #1 Broadsiding 

Already a Group 1 winner, he had to come wide from well off the pace when winning the Sires Produce over 1400m at this track on his most recent start. That made it three wins in a row for the Godolphin colt and should do better now that he is back up to a mile. Like all of these youngsters, he is yet to get to the limit of his ability. There is better to come from him and he is already the pick of these on the form in the book. 
 
DANGER - #2 Zouna 

Got the closest to Broadsiding in the Sires Produce and that entitles him to be the main danger again. He made a quick move around the outside as they turned into the straight in that contest and that might just have taken a little bit out of his finishing effort. From an inner barrier, his jockey will have to hold their nerve to get the gaps late on if they ride him cold again but he has been ridden much more prominently in the past and that might be the angle on this occasion. 
 
VALUE BET - #3 Bittercreek 

Fourth in the Sires Produce, doing the best of those who were close to the pace. Had previously finished in front of Zouna in a 1200m Group 2 at Doomben so he has the form lines that would give him a strong chance now trying this level as long as the 1600m trip is not an issue for him. He has only had four starts so is a touch less exposed than the pair mentioned above and he has been an early mover in the market which is interesting.

BEST BET - #6 Coeur Volante 

Held up a long way out of her ground in the Listed Coughlan Stakes last time out, a race that was won by Chinny Boom who was much closer to the pace that day. She is a perfect 2/2 when she has been second up in the past which is very interesting for this assignment given that this will be her second run of this prep. She has saluted in three of her six starts and the extra 100m compared to that day is going to be a big plus for her. 
 
DANGER - #9 Chinny Boom 

As mentioned, she had the run of the race when she won the Coughlan last time out. Is a kilo worse off at the weights with Coeur Volante on that run which makes this a more difficult task for all that she was a very impressive winner of that contest. She is a more exposed type than the next best so she has a little bit less potential for better still to come but she did not finish off her race as strongly as others the only time that she has run over 1300m so far in her career. 
 
VALUE BET - #12 C’Est Magique 

Has only managed to get her head in front once so far in her career in 13 starts but she has kept strong company throughout. She makes her debut for the Chris Waller team so there could be a little bit more to come with James McDonald getting the ride for the first time. Her only win came on a synthetic surface but she has more than enough solid form on turf to think that she is going to be right in the mix in this sort of race.

BEST BET - #6 Vilana 

Visually impressive when winning over 1200m in Group 2 company at this track last time out, running riot by more than three and a half lengths. He had previously struggled to get a run at a key time over a similar distance to this. That most recent run suggests that the five-year-old is as good as he has ever been and while he does not have an ideal barrier draw, he is better off than the majority of those at the head of the market. It will be interesting to see how he gets on at this level now. 
 
DANGER - #1 Bella Nipotina 

Is one of the toughest mares in training, capable at the highest level. She is unproven over this far but she has shaped as if she is worth a go at it. Has recently split decisions with I Wish I Win in the Doomben 10,000 and the Kingsford Smith Cup, a horse who would be a very hot favourite if he was in this contest so she is probably a little overpriced. The biggest concern for her chances here has to be the wide barrier in 21. That is not going to do her any favours but that does add to the price. 
 
VALUE BET - #16 Steparty 

Very well regarded in the spring, he has been a bit below that level so far this prep. He won the Guineas Prelude over 1400m in September, following that up with a third-place finish in the Caulfield Guineas over 1600m so there is more than enough ability in the tank. Dropped back to 1200m on his first start of this prep, he was drawn on the wrong side at Flemington so that can be excused. Was flat over this track and distance last time out but he got miles back and was trapped wide so could get a better transit through this race.

Clark is just a couple of winners shy of 1500 for his career and there are enough chances on Saturday for him to hit that milestone. The betting sites have a couple of his mounts as strong chances, including in the big race of the day, the Stradbroke Handicap where he is on Vilana. There are also some roughies during the afternoon for him but with that milestone so close on the horizon, it would not be a big shock if he is able to get a number of his rides at double-figure prices into the frame.

It is a fascinating card in Queensland on Saturday as the final weekend of the carnival at Eagle Farm. There should be the continued emergence of a Godolphin star in the first leg of the multi tip this weekend which we hope can get the bet off to a perfect start.
