It’s the All Aged Stakes at Randwick on Saturday, with the Group 1 feature race containing a big and competitive field.
Saturday Racing Tips Randwick 20/04/24
Randwick 20/04/24
Randwick closes out the Sydney Autumn Carnival on Saturday with an excellent card. 10 competitive races is always a great way for the betting sites to start buzzing and with two Group 1 races and four Group 3 contests on the card, there should be plenty to get excited about. We have three tips on the card, including a pick in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes which is the feature of the day as well as a roughie that looks like he is going to be perfectly suited by conditions. With winter on the way we are looking to close out the autumn in Sydney with a string of winning tips so let's get going.
(Note: Odds provided by Bet365)
Randwick Race 5 - TAB Hall Mark Stakes (1200m)
Selections:
#7 Front Page (BEST BET) - $2.20
#3 Vilana - $4.40
#2 Aft Cabin - $4.80
#1 Mazu - $7.00
BEST BET - #7 Front Page
Gets weight from six of his eight rivals so he has a huge chance on that alone. He likes to go front the front and he has the perfect barrier in two to do that with his main pace rival Mazu drawn out in eight. He has run at Randwick on two occasions in the past, saluting in back-to-back Kosciuszko’s over this same 1200m distance. Most recently he finished third in The Galaxy, only beaten 0.3 lengths in that Group 1 contest. His record second up is a slight concern but otherwise, he is a strong pick.
THE DANGER - #3 Vilana
Has found things tough since winning this race last year, beaten in all eight starts since and only once in those even looking remotely like getting involved. In his defence, four of those have come at Group 1 level so he is returned to far calmer waters in this Group 3 and the defending champion has surely had this as the plan. It was a first-up victory in 2023 and James Cummings has kept him fresh once more to ensure that he has his best chance. Three wins in five first-up starts means he has to be considered.
VALUE BET - #2 Aft Cabin
Never able to get seriously involved in The Galaxy or the T.J. Smith on his last two starts but is another who slips in class and that is going to be to his advantage. Things did not really fall his way in either of those two Group 1 races so it is easy enough to give him another chance to show what he is capable of. He was 2/2 over this track and distance ahead of the T.J. Smith and will be helped if the forecast rain for the weekend gets into the ground.
Randwick Race 6 - Toyota Forklifts JRA Plate (2000m)
Selections:
#12 Fawkner Park - $5.00
#6 New Energy - $4.20
#4 Bois D’Argent (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $10.00
#9 Yonce - $12.00
BEST BET - #12 Fawkner Park
Extended his unbeaten run when running third up in the Albury Cup last time out, absolutely ripping that Listed field to pieces. That was his third win in five runs over this 2000m trip so the distance is perfect for him. That Albury win was the first time that Tyler Schiller has ridden him, retaining the ride here. The only note of caution would be if conditions soften too much, he copes with a Soft 6 but would not want conditions to get too much worse.
THE DANGER - #6 New Energy
A frustrating type who clearly has a huge level of ability but he struggles to convert that into wins, saluting a single time in 13 career starts so far. He spent his time over 1400-1600m when he was trained in Europe but the way he has shaped in a couple of starts since moving to Ciaron Maher suggests that he is worth a try over this new distance. Was given far too much to do in the Group 1 Geo Ryder last time out but this is a drop in class.
VALUE BET - #4 Bois D’Argent
2000m suits this gelding perfectly, runner-up on his first start this prep at this track, splitting Serpentine and Military Mission, a powerful front three for a Listed contest. He does stay a little further but weakened in the Tancred over 2400m last time out so it is not a surprise to see him dropped again in distance. He was fourth in the Caulfield Cup last prep over that distance, a run that looks very strong for this Group 3 level. He will not mind a bit of the forecast rain and looks well set with a solid third-up record of two wins, a second and a third in four starts.
Randwick Race 8 - Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m)
Selections:
#10 Sunshine In Paris (NEXT BEST) - $4.80
#9 Espiona - $4.00
#12 Southport Tycoon - $6.50
#1 Private Eye - $8.50
BEST BET - #10 Sunshine In Paris
Has made an excellent start to her career, winning four of her first eight starts. They include saluting twice here, second and fifth in her other two visits to Randwick. The fifth was in the T.J. Smith two weeks ago when she was very wide on the track and had to cover plenty of turf to challenge. The move back out to 1400m will help her, winning the Group 1 Surround Stakes over track and distance last prep. Slightly better ground conditions will help as well, with that most recent run on desperate ground.
THE DANGER - #9 Espiona
Turning into a real 1400m specialist, the Chris Waller-trained mare has won five of her eight starts over this distance. She was one place and 0.1 of a length behind Sunshine In Paris in the T.J Smith and did not get the best of runs through that day so like the selection, she needs to have that run marked up a bit. She is only 2/9 at this track but they are both over this 1400m distance, the most recent of those when winning The Invitation at the end of October.
VALUE BET - #12 Southport Tycoon
The Australian Guineas winner steps back down in distance from 1600m to 1400m here. That might not be entirely ideal but that win is very strong form to bring to the table, especially given the way that the race has worked out subsequently. Runner-up Veight has saluted in the Group 1 Geo Ryder and third-placed Riff Rocket has saluted in the Group 1 ATC Derby which suggests that it was a huge run. While the distance might not be ideal, he needs a huge amount of respect.

Jockey Of The Day – Nash Rawiller
There is a solid book of rides for Nash on Saturday afternoon at Randwick, with a strong chance in the big race, the All Aged Stakes. The horse racing bookmakers might not have too many of them very short in the betting but Nash is one of those hoops who won’t worry about what price his mounts are, he will be giving them the best chance possible of saluting.
