Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick 21/12/24

It is not the strongest card at Randwick on Saturday but there are 10 races that need to be solved and winners to be found. We have picked out the ones that we feel are the strongest three to take on the betting sites with. They are nicely spread out across the afternoon and there is a price for everyone whether you like a favourite or a roughie!

BEST BET - #3 Rapt - (BEST BET)
Had an entry in a deeper and more valuable race on the same card but connections have chosen to take this option with their mare. She can prove them right as this should suit her well. She has three wins in 14 career starts to this point but she is a perfect 2/2 when she has raced over 1600m. Two of those three wins have been on good ground so these conditions are going to be perfect for her and she is yet to finish outside of the first three in any of her three starts when second up as she is here.

THE DANGER - #8 Direct Fire
Perhaps at his absolute best on ground that is a touch softer than this but he does have a win on good ground as well as four places from 10 tries. He has been showing a consistent level of form so far this prep, held up a little further back than is often the case at Rosehill last time in a race run on heavy 8. The only time that he has tried this distance in the past saw him finish out of the frame but his recent form suggests that he is well worth another try.

VALUE BET - #1 Dr Evil
Veteran had been struggling for form until he suddenly came back to a winning level at Warwick Farm on his most recent start. He has taken a little longer to find his stride in recent preps so although he lacks any progression, he has enough form to think that he can back that up. This is his ideal distance and he goes on any ground so there are no worries about his claims there. It was a big impost that he carried at Warwick Farm, with another heavy burden on his back now but that does not seem to affect him.

BEST BET - #7 Bright Red - (BEST BET)
The winner of a better contest over track and distance back in June, she has three wins in five starts when racing over 1600m. Wins on good, soft and heavy ground show that she has no issues whatever the weather does, with dry days forecast here for good ground. Connections tried her in both Listed and Group 3 company last season which would suggest they think a bit of her. She is in a Bm72 here, a level that she is more than capable of producing strong efforts at.

THE DANGER - #10 Heed The Omens
Sat a little closer to the speed at Rosehill last time out than is normally the case. That was over a slightly longer distance when he was just run out of things in the last 50m or so. He has the innermost barrier here so it will be interesting to see if he is sent to track the pace here in a race where the roughie could get a relatively soft lead. He has blinkers on for the first time here which could help him to find a little bit more when it is required at the business end of the race. Has to be of interest with a solid record of places.

VALUE BET - #1 Invincible Spy
Is drawn in a wider barrier than ideal for a front runner but he would not be the same roughie price that he is if he were on the inside. He looked in need of the run to blow away the cobwebs at Warwick Farm on his first start of this prep, run out of things late on having led for most of the race. The winner and fourth were Dr Evil and Aix En Provence so a good showing for that pair in race three will give the form a timely boost. Should strip fitter here and has some form from last season that gives him a strong chance of saluting here.

BEST BET - #7 In Flight - (BEST BET)
Boasts a strong record so far in her career, winning five of her 11 starts. She is yet to get her head in front on good ground but she has been runner-up the twice that she has run on it so it is not like she has run poorly. Was fourth in the Listed Starlight last time out when just a quarter of a length behind Our Kobison who she re-opposes here. On that occasion, she was receiving 2.5kg from that rival. This time, she gets 6kg so even accounting for good ground perhaps not being perfect, she should have the beating of that rival.

THE DANGER - #1 Our Kobison
One of the most consistent geldings in training, he has won six of his 13 starts and been placed in another five. Those two times that he finished outside of the frame were when he was fourth on his second career start after blowing the start and then in a Group 2. That was the deepest race that he has contested so it is easy enough to excuse him that, finishing second in the aforementioned Listed race last time out. Even with a 61 kg impost, he needs a huge amount of respect.

VALUE BET - #2 Garza Blanca
Won a Listed race over 1200m at Caulfield last time out, pulling miles clear with the runner-up. Is only 1/9 on good ground, though he has finished second on four of those occasions so he copes fine with these conditions. He was gelded ahead of his first start this season and his most recent run was arguably the best run of his career so it does look to have had the desired effect. Four runs at this track have seen him with a win and two second-place runs so he should be right in the mix once more.
