Saturday Racing Tips Rosehill 26/08/23

The final Saturday of racing action is in August before we get stuck into the spring action in September. It is a good quality card with a pair of Group 3 races, including one of our selections that has been the subject of plenty of support at a roughie price. A Best bet, a next best, a multi and a jockey of the day follow as we search through the best betting apps to find the top prices for the selections below.

BEST BET - #2 Wineglass Bay
In danger of becoming a little frustrating, as it is fair to say he does not win as often as one of his abilities should. He was only just beaten last time when ridden a little more forward than is often the case. He was in front of Too Much Caviar two starts back, and although that rival has a weight advantage off the back of that clash, he should have too much for that one once more. Given his level of natural talent, He should be well up to winning this.

THE DANGER - #1 Too Much Caviar
Behind the selection, two starts back and is weighted to at least get a little closer on Saturday. He had a win over this 2000m trip in December of last year, so the longer distance is no concern for him, though he might need to be ridden with more restraint. His three runs in June and July after a spell were not his best, so he could do with rediscovering his best form now. If he can tap back into that top level of ability he possesses, he should be right in the mix.

VALUE BET - #6 Little Mix
This mare was behind another of today’s rivals in Yukon last time out, but that was first up for her and second time up for that gelding, so she can reverse those places now. This more extended trip will be in her favour, making ground late on that day, having found herself a little too far back in the field. She has only had 11 starts in her career, less than any of her rivals, so she is open to a little better.

Rosehill Race 7 - CMNL Up And Coming Stakes Group 3 (1300m)

BEST BET - #3 Caballus
He has not enjoyed much luck in running in two of his three career starts to date. Between them, he was a Randwick winner, beating Estriella, who was only just touched off in a Group 2 back at that same track last Saturday. With his form boosted and after only four starts, there is room for a much bigger performance - he just needs to get more luck in running. Looks like the likely winner if the gaps appear at the right time, but that is a big if.

THE DANGER - #11 Les Vampires
He showed his lack of experience on debut, wandering around when asked for his effort and made no mistake second time up when bouncing out in front and dictating the race from that point. When challenged, he showed a good attitude, stepping up on his debut form with a much more professional performance. Looks well worth his place in this Group 3 off the back of that. For all that, he will find getting a soft lead much more difficult in this stronger race. He is a danger to all if he can find his way to the speed.

VALUE BET - #7 Encap
He was runner-up to Les Vampires last time out, doing his best work late on. The winner led from the barriers, while the third that day was always in that same third position. For Encap to come from much further back than the other pair in the frame suggests that his run can be marked up. He steps up in trip 100m, which might be enough distance to produce an improved effort of his opening three starts. He looks overpriced in comparison to Les Vampires on their meeting last time, and for all that, his price has been crashing over the last couple of days. We hope that the money is right and he runs a huge race.

Rosehill Race 9 - Dooleys Handicap (1400m)

BEST BET - #2 Kalino
He drops back into handicap company, having competed in a Group 3 event at Randwick a week ago. There was a big market move for him that day, but he could not justify the confidence in that 1200m contest. However, he was beaten less than three lengths against one who now enters consideration for The Everest. He steps up to 1400m here, which should see him much more competitive, especially in this lower grade. Should be a tough horse to beat in this race.

THE DANGER - #12 Glint Of Silver
Well behind Kalino over 1300m here in July, but was much better second time up over this track and trip a fortnight back. He is 2kg better off at the weights, which entitles him to close the gap a little, though we do not think it will be enough to turn that form around. There is a wider barrier to contend with on Saturday, so he might find it a little more challenging to get on the front end with quite so much ease. Despite that, he is respected.

VALUE BET - #13 Political Debate
Off the track for almost 11 months ahead of his run here when a bit over a length behind Glint Of Silver, having come from a long way back in the field. He took on much better fields in 2022, second in the J J Atkins at Eagle Farm in June of that year. Bringing Group 1 form to this level makes him very dangerous if he can get anywhere close to that effort. He is entitled to improve for that return to action, though could be better the third time up.
