Best Multibet Tips of the Weekend | February 3rd

A couple of unexposed horses make plenty of winning appeal in our Saturday Multibet from Rosehill, with better still to come.

We are at Rosehill on Saturday for our three-horse multibet, with some smart types in action. Two of our picks are in the handicaps rather than the Group 3 races on the card, but there is a chance that they could both make up into that sort of class come the spring.

Rosehill R4 #3 - Lady Laguna $2.20

The winner of her last two starts, she is in the form of her life at present. Took out a Listed race at Doomben between Christmas and New Year, doubling up at Gold Coast in a competitive contest last time. She is up into a Group 3 here with conditions to suit and the weights very much in her favour given the respective ratings of her rivals. The only slight concern is the lack of pace for her to chase, which could hand her biggest rival Malkovich a soft lead, but he was well below par when last seen at Flemington.

Rosehill R9 #6 - Our Kobison $2.00

He was saluted for our tips at this track two weeks ago over 1100m, stepping out slightly to 1200m for this race. James McDonald has the ride again, which is a huge plus given his exceptional record for the yard, which is well worth mentioning again. This is a better race, but he could do better still lengthening out to this distance, and he has only had seven career starts, so he is still relatively unexposed. We don’t know where the limit of his ability is right now so he is worth keeping onside.

Rosehill R10 #14 - The Black Cloud $3.10

There are few better trainers with a sprinter than Joseph Pride. This filly has a long way to go if she is to become a stable star, but she has won both of her races so far, shaping as if she is going to be far better than her current rating of 67. She has sat on the pace in both of those, drawing barrier four here, so she is set to attack early again. Each win has been on soft ground, so these conditions are no problem for her, and she has the potential to keep on winning.

Stats and Insights

  • We mentioned this last time Our Kobison ran, but it is worth repeating - Angela Davies and James McDonald have teamed up eight times for six winners and a second.
  • A low barrier is preferred over most distances at Rosehill.
  • Both trainer Joseph Pride and jockey Jay Ford have had more winners at Rosehill than any other track. They combine with The Black Cloud.
  • Rosehill is 2,048m around with a run-in of 408m.

It is a shame that there are plans to close Rosehill, as it is one of our favourite tracks for finding winners. We hope that for as long as it is open, it continues to be a lucky track for us, including this week for our $682 multibet selections.
