Group 1 action returns to the track on Saturday afternoon when Caulfield hosts the Orr Stakes, which features Mr Brightside.

It is a great feeling to be back in Group 1 racing again, with the quality horses making a buzz on all betting sites. No more so than Mr Brightside, who returns in the first Group 1 of the Autumn.

Caulfield R3 #9 - Another Wil $2.00

They had almost six months between race starts, but that did not stop him from an impressive return when saluting at Sandown. The four-year-old has only had four races in his life, so connections have clearly minded him, and they look like they will be rewarded for their patience this Autumn. He's going to want a little further than this 1600m in time but won over this distance last prep, and his Sandown victory was 1400m, so expect him to step up on that in both fitness and experience.

Caulfield R4 #4 - Southport Tycoon $1.85

He kept some good company in the spring, chasing home Steparty in the Guineas Prelude over this track and distance before finding trouble in the run in the Caulfield Guineas when 9th, an effort that is easy to forgive and mark up. He had his first start of this prep at The Valley when chasing home Veight in the Group 2 Australia Stakes, that winner taking on Mr Brightside later on on this card. The return to 1400m will suit him, so this is a perfect opportunity for career win number three.

Caulfield R9 #1 - Mr Brightside $1.90

A Group 1 star who needs no introduction, even to casual horse racing fans. One of the best over 1600m over the last couple of seasons, he returns to action at the earliest possible time in the Orr Stakes, the feature race on the Caulfield card. The Orr is a 1400m contest but looks like a perfect launching pad for his autumn campaign, especially with Pride Of Jenni in here to make this a proper pace for him to chase. He is the class act here and is 3/3 over this track and distance, which furthers the confidence that he will return with a win.

Stats and Insights

  • Caulfield is a fine galloping track of over 2000m in circumference with a run-in of almost 400m.
  • Damian Lane has the most winners of any jockey at the track this season. He rides Southport Tycoon in our second leg.
  • An inside barrier is advantageous, especially over 1400m and 1600m.
  • As mentioned earlier, Mr Brightside has never tasted defeat in three prior runs over 1400m at Caulfield.

Two winners and a second in our multibet last week was a little frustrating as it felt like the horse racing bookmakers got a win. We go again this week with much better quality action to enjoy - hopefully, this can turn the tide in the favour of the punters.
