Best Multibet Tips of the Weekend | February 17th

A stacked card at Randwick looks like the perfect place to get stuck into our Saturday multibet made up of some classy types.

It is an excellent card at Randwick on Saturday with some genuine Group 1 stars on show as well as some probable Group 1 stars of the future as well. With three Group 2 races and a Group 3 on the 10-race card, it is going to be an exciting afternoon of action with three strongly fancied horses for our multibet.

Randwick R1 #2 - Switzerland $1.95

An excellent two-year-old contest to kick off the card with a pair of runners who are in single digits for the Golden Slipper in the futures market. The Chris Waller-trained horse gets the vote here after a debut that was visually spectacular. That form has been well franked already with the second winning the Listed Lonhro Stakes on her next start. He will be tested by Shangri La Express who has looked a nice recruit in his two wins but he has not run since November and the match fitness of the pick gives him the edge.

Randwick R5 #4 - Buenos Noches $2.05

It was an outstanding spring prep for the Matthew Smith-trained horse. He mixed it with the best sprinters in the country, finishing 8th in the Everest, beaten three and a half lengths before signing off with a half-length second to Imperatriz in the VRC Classic. He resumes in a Group 2 on Saturday with two wins in his three first-up starts so far. Should find this a beatable field for his opener for the autumn and can take this before taking the step back up in class to Group 1 level.

Randwick R7 #8 - Fangirl $2.20

Won a pair of Group 1 contests at this track in the spring, including first-up in the Winx Stakes over this distance. She also saluted in the King Charles III Stakes over 1600m when beating the likes of Mr Brightside. The Cox Plate saw her fail to get any sort of a run before a run at Flemington was perhaps one race too many in the prep as she ran flat. Has a solid record when fresh and back at Randwick in Group 2 company, it would be a little disappointing if she was unable to start her autumn campaign with a win.

Stats and Insights

  • At a little over 2,200 around and a run-in of 400m+, Randwick is a fair, galloping track.
  • Matthew Smith and Nash Rawiller have a 29% strike rate when combining this season as they do on Saturday with Buenos Noches.
  • As with most tracks, there is an inside barrier bias, though not a huge one.
  • James McDonald has ridden Fangirl five times, winning four of them.

The quality of racing is really starting to ramp up as we head towards the heart of the autumn campaign. The horse racing bookmakers are going to see brisk business this weekend and we hope that we can see these three saluting at Randwick to make it a perfect Saturday afternoon of racing.
