Best Multibet Tips of the Weekend | June 22nd

Ground conditions are typically soft around most of the country this weekend. It can be a difficult time of year with horses deep into their preps and winter closing in. We head to Randwick to take on the horse racing bookmakers with some horses who should enjoy the conditions.

Randwick R5 #8 - Kerguelen $2.00

The James Cummings-trained gelding has only been seen once so far in his career so Godolphin have been patient with him. He was a winner on his debut at Kembla Grange in mid-May on a Heavy 9 surface so he is going to have no issues with the ground. He travelled well and ended up hammering that field by almost 10 lengths. He almost certainly beat nothing of note that day but it was the way that he dispatched the field that suggests that he is well above average.

Randwick R6 #13 - Amberite $3.60

An impressive winner two starts back at Flemington over this trip in a BM84, the same level that he contests here. He was not beaten far in his run since which extended his form to 0/7 on good ground. His three wins have all been on soft or worse, so these conditions are going to suit him much better than they did that day. He stays a longer distance than this so conditions that make this more of a stamina test are perfect for him and he has the benefit of James McDonald in the saddle for the first time.

Randwick R7 #10 - Dipsy Doodle $2.80

Wins on Soft 7 and Heavy 8 mark the filly down as one who is going to enjoy these conditions. She has saluted over 1100m so far but on this ground, the drop back to 1000m should not be a concern for her. She likes to be on the speed so a middle barrier is not too bad and it can be hard to make up ground from off the speed when they get fractions right on the front end and that is where James McDonald excels.

Stats and Insights

  • Randwick is a little over 2,200m around with a run-in of just over 400m.
  • James McDonald has a 23% strike rate at Randwick so far this season. He is in the saddle for all three of our multibet selections.
  • Inside barriers have only a small advantage over most trips but over 2000m and 2400m it is a little bigger with a long sweeping bend to run early.
  • Amberite is a rare Randwick winner for Matt Laurie, just his second here this season.

While it is not always wise to put all eggs into one basket, we are all over the rides of James McDonald on Saturday at Randwick. The strength of his rides could see lots of multiples on the betting sites containing nothing but his mounts and that includes ours!
