Three selections on the Eagle Farm card on Saturday are combined to make up our multitap, which pays $400 if all three salutes.

The last Saturday before Christmas, and we are off to Eagle Farm in a bid to land one final blow to the horse racing bookmakers before the celebrations begin. It is a super card with a Group 3, a Listed race, and other strong contests.

Eagle Farm R3 #1 - Weigall Tiger $1.45

A very short price to kick things off, but this three-year-old gelding has been deeply progressive this season, a perfect 4/4 in his starts. He finds a little more improvement each time connections set him a stiffer task, which is a sign of a good one. With just six starts to his credit so far in his career, it is easy to think that there will still be better to come from him, and it could be that they have not gotten close to the bottom of him yet.

Eagle Farm R7 #1 - Acquitted $2.40

A Listed contest where the forecast rain will be a big plus for this gelding. He has a solid record when running in this grade, winning at Doomben last time out. That was over this same trip of 1600m, almost a length and a half in front at the line. It was as strong a performance as we have seen from him, which saw a couple of these behind him. The way the weights are framed here gives him strong claims of doubling up.

Eagle Farm R9 #10 - Bezique $2.30

With two wins from two starts so far in this preparation, the Tony Gollan-trained mare has an excellent chance at the weights. Her recent wins have come at Doomben, but with one on Good 4 and the other on Heavy 9, she will not mind what the weather does. She likes to be close to the pace, and she can maintain her decent cruising speed for longer than her rivals and add another win to her starts over 1200m.

Stats and Insights

  • Eagle Farm is a galloping track of more than 2000m around with a straight in excess of 400m
  • A low barrier tends to be the place to be, especially in sprint distances of 1000m and 1200m
  • Ben Thompson knows this track better than anyone; 277 rides here in the last 12 months, with 40% making the first three past the post. He rides Bezique.
  • Kelly Schweida has an ROI of +20 at Eagle Farm this season and will saddle Weigall Tiger in Race 3.

Eagle Farm is a fair test for horses where they can win from the front and the back, so we hope these favourites on the betting sites will once more see the class shine through at the track.
