Three selections on a superb Saturday card at Randwick make up a win multiple with a favourites chance of landing.

There are many exciting races at Randwick on Saturday, including a Group 3 for the two-year-olds that should be full of future winners with lovely pedigrees. The card also contains three Group 1 races, so there is serious quality on show.

Randwick R3 #11 - Scampi $2.00

A two-year-old race at this point of the spring could be a dangerous proposition, but the Ciaron Maher-trained youngster was very impressive in a recent Kensington trial and is bred to be sharp at this stage of his career. His sire, Blue Point, was a smart European sprinter for Godolphin, winning three times at Royal Ascot. His dam is from the family of Black Caviar and has already produced a Group 3 winner. This colt looks ready to go in first time.

Randwick R7 #2- Think About It $2.30

The winner of nine of his ten career starts, the only defeat he has suffered so far came on his third career start when he was held up miles out of his ground at Warwick Farm. He has done nothing but improve in the 13 months since that defeat, including a pair of Group 1 wins at Eagle Farm in May and June. He has not been seen in race action since then, but he slips down a level into Group 2 for his return.

Randwick R9 #14 - Just Fine $1.75

Has been a revelation since joining the stable of Gai Waterhouse from Sir Michael Stoute in the UK. He has won both starts for his current connections, running away with the Group 3 Kingston Town. This is a step up in class to Group 1 level for him, but his visual impression last time was a gelding firmly on the upgrade. He was always chasing the pace and quickly put the race to bed when asked to quicken. He could still have improvement left in him with the return to 2400m, looking for help from a handy low draw.

Stats and Insights

  • James McDonald boasts a strike rate of over 25% with his rides at the track in the last 12 months
  • Joseph Pride has an ROI of 37 at the track so far this season. He runs Think About It on the card.
  • Over 2400m, there is a run of only 200m to the first turn, so an inside barrier has an advantage heading into the long bend.
  • The home straight is more than 400m and has an incline, making it a fair track where horses can win from the front and behind.

Three Group 1 races on the Saturday card at Randwick scream quality, and some big reputations are put on show during the afternoon. There are short prices, and we hope the horse racing bookmakers are walloped with winning favourites.
