Reports say Liverpool will try to sign Mbappé if Salah leaves in 2024

- Liverpool have entered the race to sign Mbappé.
- TEAMtalk claim the Reds “would love” to sign the Frenchman from PSG.

TEAMtalk in England claims that Liverpool are preparing to make a move for PSG’s Kylian Mbappé. The Frenchman’s contract ends next summer, meaning Liverpool would be able to sign him on a free transfer. However, Mbappé is expected to demand massive wages, the club would need to shed Mohamed Salah next summer to make the move happen.
Salah was a major target for the Saudi Pro League last summer, so a move away from Liverpool may be very easy to find for the Egyptian next summer.
Liverpool “would love” to sign Mbappé
For years it seemed there was only one club on the planet Kylian Mbappé would go to if he ever decided to leave PSG. That club is Real Madrid. It now seems Liverpool have entered the race to sign Mbappé.
TEAMtalk claim the Reds “would love” to sign the Frenchman from PSG. The bombshell report also states that Liverpool may be ready to make a move in the coming months for Mbappé. If they do, TEAMtalk expects many more clubs to enter the fray.
Salah to Saudi Arabia to make room for Mbappé?
The biggest obstacle for Liverpool to sign Mbappé from PSG is his salary. Mbappé reportedly earns £65m ($124.2m AUD) per year at PSG. Liverpool’s highest wage earner, Mohamed Salah, reportedly is on just £20m ($38.2 AUD) per season. Liverpool will only be able to afford Mbappé’s salary if they move on from Salah next summer.
Unlike some clubs who struggle to sell on ageing stars, Liverpool should not have any problem moving on from Salah. The club rejected a £150m ($286.7m AUD) bid for Salah from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad. The club believes a similar-sized offer will be available in 2024.
Salah’s agent has also tacitly endorsed a move for his player to the Saudi Pro League. Liverpool should have plenty of suitors if they do decide to part ways with Salah in order to sign Mbappé.
Mbappé chasing Ballon d’Or and Champions League wins
Mbappé has largely remained silent about his future, even when it seemed sure he was going to join Real Madrid two seasons ago. Mbappé similarly cool-headed earlier this season when he was nearly frozen out of the PSG squad after reports emerged that he had agreed to a deal with Real Madrid to join them at the end of the 2023-24 season.
All of this is to say that we do not really know what Mbappé is going to do next.
The traditional story for Mbappé is that he has always wanted to join Real Madrid because he supported them as a kid and idolised Cristiano Ronaldo. Recent reports from England now say Mbappé would prefer a move to the Premier League because it would give him the best chance at winning the Champions League and Ballon d’Or.
If reports from England are true, joining Liverpool definitely would help Mbappé achieve his goals. The betting sites have Liverpool as a virtual lock to qualify for the Champions League this season. They would surely be contenders for the Champions League trophy next year with Mbappé on their side.
PSG, meanwhile, are one bad result away against Dortmund from dropping out of the Champions League altogether. However, PlayUp gives them $15.00 odds to win the competition outright, which makes them fifth favourites to win the Champions League.
Whatever happens this season, Mbappé is not expected to make a transfer decision until the end of the season when his contract expires. Liverpool are longshots now, but if they do move on from Salah, there may be a real chance that Mbappé ends up playing at Anfield next season.
