The Manchester Derby loss reportedly has Sir Jim Ratcliffe looking around for another manager to replace Erik ten Hag.
Man Utd to sign De Zerbi or Southgate if ten Hag leaves
Roberto De Zerbi, Gareth Southgate, and Thomas Frank could replace Ten Hag

- Erik ten Hag may leave Man Utd this summer.
- De Zerbi, Gareth Southgate, and Thomas Frank to replace Ten Hag.
- Other managers are also being considered.
- Man Utd are on track to miss out on the Champions League this season.
Erik ten Hag is once again on the hot seat following a loss against Manchester City in the Manchester Derby last week. Ten Hag’s Red Devils had just one shot on target and were easily beaten 3-1.
Reports from England now say that Manchester United’s new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is strongly considering replacing Ten Hag this summer. Other reports claim the Dutchman may actually step away from the job willingly. Whatever the case, Ratcliffe and his company INEOS have begun analysing replacements.
According to ESPN, Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, England’s Gareth Southgate, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank are currently being assessed by INEOS.
Assessing the Erik Ten Hag replacements
Some fans have taken the ESPN report with a grain of salt considering how different the three coaches are. Each would present a radical different future for Manchester United.
Roberto De Zerbi is one of the hottest names in management right now. Signing him would undoubtedly be a sign of the club’s new ambitions, but it would also be a major risk considering his lack of experience at ‘big clubs’ like Manchester United.
Like De Zerbi, Thomas Frank is a manager who has done a great job at a smaller club. However, he is far more pragmatic than De Zerbi or even Southgate. He would be brought in to steady the ship.
Southgate is a truly out-of-the-box candidate until you consider Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s affinity for England. The Monaco resident backed the revitalisation of Team GB cycling and signed a large number of English players to play for his French side Nice.
New Man Utd manager betting odds
ESPN thinks Roberto De Zerbi, Gareth Southgate, and Thomas Frank the favourites to take over for Erik ten Hag, but none of those names are high on the list of Manchester United next manager odds lists.
According to the betting sites, Graham Potter is next in line to take over at Manchester United. Another former Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, is also high on the Manchester United manager odds list.
Other top contenders include Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi, Sporting’s Ruben Amorim, and Zinedine Zidane.
Complete overhaul needed
Whoever Sit Jim Ratcliffe hires to replace Erik ten Hag, if he does indeed leave, will just be the first move in a complete overhaul of his new Manchester United side.
The general consensus is that Manchester United will need to sell and replace over half of their squad. This includes Antony, who Erik ten Hag brought in for over nearly €100 million.
Manchester United’s next match is against Sean Dyche’s Everton. The Red Devils are favoured to win this match, but with the pressure on United, our soccer betting experts think anything can happen here.
