Antoine Griezmann is happy Atletico Madrid and will not join Man Utd

- Recent reports say Griezmann will sign a new contract with Atletico Madrid soon.
Antoine Griezmann has been one of the best players in the world this season. His eight goals are among the best in La Liga and he’s been key to Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid’s success this season. These strong performances have seen the Frenchman strongly linked with a move to Manchester United. This week, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has thrown cold water on those Manchester United transfer rumours.
The Italian journalist posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Griezmann is only focused on Atletico Madrid and that there is “no chance” of a move now.
Griezmann rejects Man United again
News of Antoine Griezmann saying no to Manchester United is surely having some Red Devils fans feeling deja vu. Griezmann famously rejected a transfer to United back in 2017 before becoming one of the best players in the world and joining Barcelona two years later.
If Romano is to be believed, Griezmann will not be joining Manchester United in 2024.
“There’s nothing into the recent reports about Antoine Griezmann and Manchester United. Griezmann already rejected Saudi huge bid in June as he only wants Atlético Madrid. No chance to move now,” said Romano.
Contract extension likely for Griezmann
Any fans still optimistic about Griezmann joining Manchester United despite Romano’s reporting probably shouldn’t be. The Frenchman’s contract expires in 2026. Recent reports say Griezmann will sign a new contract with Atletico Madrid soon.
Griezmann spoke about these rumours jokingly following the announcement of Diego Simeone’s new contract, saying to Diario AS “[Simeone] is the perfect coach for this club. Miguel Ángel Gil Marin knows it, he is very good. Now it’s my turn!”
If Griezmann does sign a new contract, a move anywhere would become incredibly unlikely.
Other Manchester United transfers rumours
Despite their recent lack of trophies, Manchester United are still one of the biggest clubs in the world. Under normal circumstances, they are the subject of countless transfer rumours. When you add into the equation the potential investment by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the Manchester United transfer rumour mill has been kicked into overdrive.
Griezmann is just one of many players who have been linked to the Red Devils in recent weeks following the news about Ratcliffe’s pending purchase of 25% of the club. With so many names being thrown into the mix, it can be hard to separate fact from fiction. However, there is one name we are fairly certain will be involved in a Manchester United transfer soon. That name is Jason Sancho.
The 23-year-old winger has been frozen out by his manager, Erik ten Hag. The betting sites think his most likely destination is Saudi Arabia. Other reports claim Juventus is his next destination.
Whatever happens with Jason Sancho, his transfer is just one of many that could happen very quickly for Manchester United in the January window as Erik ten Hag and new Man U owner, Jim Ratcliffe, try to salvage something from this season. However, one transfer we now know is unlikely to happen no matter what, is Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United.
