Since launching in 2017, PlayUp has become one of the best betting sites in Australia for a number of reasons. They’ve got competitive odds, a really solid selection of markets, elite customer support, and a terrific website and mobile app. On this PlayUp app review page, we’ll talk about the latter of those features, discussing the PlayUp mobile app in detail.

About PlayUp App
The PlayUp app is, to put it simply, one of the best mobile betting apps that you’ll find. This is little surprise; they have a fantastic website, so one would expect them to develop an equally user-friendly app too, and that’s exactly what they’ve done.
The app is downloadable for iOS and Android devices, and allows you to access everything that PlayUp has to offer while you’re on the go. Whether you want to place a bet, contact PlayUp’s customer service, deposit funds or anything else, you can do it on the app.
Once you do download it, you can either sign up or log in on the app, and will be greeted by a homepage which closely resembles what you’d find on the desktop site. I find it super easy to use; upcoming events are listed at the top of the screen, while you can also find a more detailed list of races and sports markets across the bottom of the home page, as shown in the screenshot below
As mentioned, however, betting isn’t all you can do on the PlayUp app. A drop-down menu on the left-hand side of the screen allows you to access deposits and withdrawals, customer support and a lot more.
The best thing about the PlayUp app, however, is how quickly it works. This is essentially the first thing I look for in an app; certainly there are differences in how convenient the layout is, how intuitive they are to use etc., but at the end of the day, if an app crashes regularly or takes an age to load, it doesn’t matter how good the layout is.
The PlayUp app, like the website, loads extremely quickly and offers a very smooth experience for the user. Click on something, and it opens. That might sound like a given, but it’s not with many apps. Not only is PlayUp one of the most well-designed apps going around, but it’s also one of the quickest and easiest to use.
Playup app pros & Cons
As with anything in life, there are both pros and cons with the PlayUp app. In this section of this PlayUp app review, we’ll take a look at the most notable of both of these.
👍Playup App Pros
-
Extremely responsive: As mentioned in the section above, this is to me the most significant positive about the PlayUp app. This betting app is as easy to use as any that you’ll find; it loads super fast, and at least when I’ve used it, doesn’t seem to have any issues in terms of crashing or beginning to lag like many other betting apps do.
-
Easy to navigate: A betting app being responsive is the most important factor in how usable it is, but once you get past that you want an app which is straightforward to navigate, too. PlayUp’s is exactly that. It’s very easy to find whatever you’re looking for, with the app following a simple and streamlined design which allows you to get where you need to go in as few clicks as possible.
-
Great customer support available: One of the biggest features of PlayUp’s is their excellent customer support platform, the most notable element of which is their 24/7 live chat. All of their different customer support methods, which includes live chat, a phone number and an email address, are clearly outlined on the betting app, with live chat available there, the phone number obviously easy to use when you’re already on your phone, and the email address also plainly shown.
👎Playup App Cons
-
Tendency to ban winning punters: A recurring complaint about PlayUp from customers is that they have a tendency to ban punters who consistently win. This, unfortunately, is not unique to PlayUp, but it does appear they have a lower barrier to ban or limit people than other bookmakers, and this is no different if you use their betting app.
-
ID verification issues: Another complaint which I noted from numerous people when looking at reviews of the PlayUp app is that there are some issues verifying identity for users. This appears to be the case on the app more than on the actual betting site, and if you want to exclusively use the app this could certainly be a cause for frustration.
-
Withdrawals can be a little slow: Withdrawals from a betting site are never immediate, but PlayUp does tend to take a little longer than most of their counterparts. This is the same whether you withdraw from the betting site, or from the mobile app. Regardless of which method you use, you might have to wait a couple of days for your funds to arrive.
All betting apps have pros and cons, and which of them are the most significant will depend on the punter. For me, a responsive app is the first thing I look for, so the PlayUp betting app gets a big tick in this regard. The ID verification issues on the app are certainly something to be ironed out, but for me the cons pale in comparison to the pros for this betting app.
PlayUp sports betting markets
One of the many strong components of PlayUp is their range of betting markets, all of which you can find on the PlayUp app. There’s no doubt that there are other betting agencies which offer a greater selection of different markets, particularly for sports, than what PlayUp has, but they are still in the upper echelon in this regard, particularly for a new Australian betting site.
At the time of writing, there were 23 different sports available to bet on with the PlayUp app. Many of these are those that you will find with every betting site, such as Australian rules football, cricket and basketball, and these common sports to bet on – or more particularly the most common leagues – are shown at the top under a title saying ‘Featured’. Others are a little less common, with snooker, darts and even politics among the examples that caught my eye.
If you click into a particular sport on the PlayUp betting app, then you’ll be greeted with all the different leagues available for that sport from around the globe. Click again on the league, and you’ll find all the matches. Click on the matches, and you’ll find the individual markets for that match.
It’s in this latter area which the best betting apps in terms of range of betting markets really stand out, and PlayUp does a pretty good job of competing in this regard. For an upcoming AFL match, for example, there are 153 different markets available. Aside from the common ones like head-to-head and moneyline, you’ll find a good selection of player prop markets, such as ‘To Get X Disposals’ or ‘To Kick X Goals’. As the kinds of markets I typically bet on, I’m always pleased to see these available on a betting app.
The PlayUp app also offers solid odds for all markets. The line markets, for example, typically come in at a very competitive $1.90, while the player props are among the best that you’ll find among all betting apps. What’s more, with the PlayUp app it’s super easy to scroll through and find the markets that you’re after, as well as place a bet.
PlayUp racing betting markets
The racing markets available on the PlayUp app are, like the sports markets, very competitive with the rest of the industry. There is, however, a lot less variation among different betting sites and apps in this regard; generally the racing meets available will be much the same, as will the different racing markets, so there’s a little bit less need to discuss in details all of the options available.
To get to the racing markets on the PlayUp app, you can either click on some of the ‘Next to Jump’ markets on the homepage, or click on the Racing tab. There you’ll be greeted with a list of the meets, and you can click into individual races which have all the markets that you’d expect, such as win/place, trifecta, quinella and a range of other exotics.
The racing odds available on the PlayUp app are also pretty solid. Like many other features of this betting site, they aren’t the best odds in the industry, but they are certainly above average and provide reasonable value for the punter, rounding out what is a good racing section of a betting app.
PlayUp App features
There are a number of features which are not necessarily unique to PlayUp, but which do help to set them apart from many bookmakers, which are available on the app. In this section of this PlayUp app review, we’ll take a look at a few of the most notable.
Live betting
Live betting is a growing form of betting, but it’s not available with all that many bookmakers still. PlayUp, however, is one with whom it is available, and the fact that you can do it on a highly functional app makes live betting about as easy as you could possibly imagine. As you may or may not know, to place a live bet in Australia – that is, a bet on an event which has already started – you need to ring up and place your bet; you can’t simply do it on the desktop site or mobile app.
That’s why it’s so much easier to live bet when you’re using a mobile app. On either your laptop or mobile, when you click on a live market that you want to bet on you’ll be prompted to call a phone number. If you’re on your laptop, of course, you’ll need to manually do that. On the PlayUp app, you’ll be prompted to call the live betting number on the mobile you’re using to browse the app.
This means that all you need to do is follow the prompts and you’ll be able to see all the live markets available to you on the app as shown below, after which you can call up directly out of the mobile app. This makes it quick and easy to place a live bet, and as one of only a handful of bookmakers that offer live betting, combined with the fact that they have such a responsive app, this makes the PlayUp app one of the best places to place live bets from.
Customer service available all day, every day
This is a feature which is a part of PlayUp in general, not just the mobile app, and which you’ll also find on our PlayUp review, but it is certainly applicable to the PlayUp app, on which contact customer service is super easy. The live chat feature is my preferred method of getting in contact with PlayUp, and pivotally, this is available 24/7. You can access it directly on the mobile app at any time of the day at any time of the week, making contacting PlayUp customer support from the PlayUp app super easy.
You can also give them a call any time of the day, and this is particularly easy from the PlayUp app. Of course, you’re already on your mobile device when you’re on the PlayUp app, so all that you need to do to contact their customer support by phone is click on the number in the customer support section of the app, and it’ll call for you.
You can also email them whenever you want, though of course this won’t typically be responded to immediately. For an immediate answer, however, live chat and a phone number certainly do the job, and are both easily accessible from the PlayUp app.
PlayUp Playbook
The PlayUp Playbook a blog offered by PlayUp, which is available on both the desktop site and the mobile app. This is a nice added feature which allows you to get a little bit more information about both the sports and the races on which you might be betting. They provide previews and reviews as well as some tips – though given those tips are provided by a bookmaker who benefits from you losing, I certainly wouldn’t be using them as your only source! Still, they are a nice added feature, and with this available on the PlayUp app, only serve to make the PlayUp mobile service that little bit better.
PlayUp App deposit and withdrawal
PlayUp has a pretty good selection of different deposit and withdrawal options for punters in general, and this unsurprisingly means that you’ve got a solid range of options in the PlayUp app deposit and withdrawal section, too.
As with most bookmakers, debit/credit card is the simplest option with PlayUp – or at least it is in my view. All you need to do here is add and verify your card, and you can easily deposit at the click of a button. Conveniently, if you’ve verified your card on your account on the desktop site, it will be verified once you log into the app, too. Rather than the verification being dependent on the platform you use, it’s dependent on the account, so if you do it once you won’t have to do it again.
You’ve got a few other options as well, with POLi one particularly easy way to deposit funds into your account on the PlayUp app. This simply involves you entering your bank details, and the money will be immediately deposited into your betting account from your bank account.
Rounding out the list of payment options on the PlayUp app is paysafecard, or you can deposit directly into PlayUp’s own bank account and then notify them by either BPay or EFT Notification. The latter two of these might take a little while, though, so in my experience you’ll generally just be better off using one of the other options if they’re available to you.
All of these options are easy to find on the PlayUp app, and as mentioned you don’t have to do any extra verification on the app if it’s the first time you’re using it, as long as you’ve followed the verification steps on the desktop site.
Customer Support
Customer support is one area in which PlayUp excels. Arguably they are the best in the industry in this regard, and the PlayUp app allows you to easily access all of the myriad of different ways they offer to get in touch with them from the comfort of your mobile device.
The first, and in my view the most noteworthy, way to get in touch with PlayUp on the app is through live chat. This allows you to immediately (generally) speak with a customer service representative, and the added benefit is that if you’re not somewhere where you can talk out loud – as is often the case – you can still get your queries answered.
Even better, this live chat service is available every single minute of every single day, so you can always get in touch with PlayUp no matter when it is. The live chat is available on both the desktop site and the app, so you can reach out even if you’re on the go.
If you do prefer to call up and speak to somebody, you can also do this with PlayUp, and obviously being on the mobile app makes it that little bit easier. Clearly, you’re already on your phone, so calling up and speaking to a customer service agent is literally as simple as clicking a button. The number, for what it’s worth, is 1800 752 987.
The final option you have is to send them an email at support@playup.com.au. This might be a little easier on your computer, but with the quality of email apps that are floating around these days it’s every bit as easy to open up your email app of choice and send through a message to PlayUp. Typically this will take a little longer to reply to than the aforementioned options, but if you’re not in a rush it can be a good choice.
PlayUp’s customer support platform is an extremely good one, and all of the different options they provide for getting in touch are available on the PlayUp mobile app. What’s more, it’s often even easier to do so, with the phone option obviously more straightforward when you’re already on your phone, and the live chat and email options both relatively straightforward on your mobile device.
