Ange Postecoglou has been at Tottenham for just six months, but there’s rumours saying he might already be on his way out of the club. With Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, Postecoglou has emerged as a top choice to replace him.
Postecoglou asked to interview at Liverpool
A recent report from Andy Maher, who correctly predicted Postecoglou’s last two moves, revealed on his radio show on Monday that Postecoglou is one of the top names in the running for the Liverpool job after Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he would be stepping away from the club at the end of this season.
“This is what I’ve received today,” Maher said. “I’m not going to mention who it is, [but the source says] ‘Postecoglou’s manager Frank Trimboli has formally received an invitation to discuss his potential interest in the Liverpool Football Club managerial position.’”
The veteran journo went on to say that you could take this message “to the bank” and that the source was the same one who informed him of Postecoglou’s moves to Yokohama F. Marinos and Glasgow Celtic years ago.
“He’s got to go” to Liverpool
After delivering this massive news, Maher explained that this opportunity would be one too big for Postecoglou to pass up.
“He is a passionate Liverpool man,” Maher said, referring to the fact that Postecoglou grew up supporting Liverpool in South Melbourne as a boy.
“Liverpool was my team,” Postecoglou said earlier this year. “I was a massive Liverpool supporter…Kenny Dalglish was king for me.”
Like Dalglish, Maher thinks Postecoglou could end up a Liverpool legend if he joins the Reds now. “Liverpool fans have shown that, ‘If you are one of us … and you have success’, you are on the fast track to become an immortal at Anfield. [If given the chance,] he’s got to go. He may never get another chance,” he said.
Former Crystal Palace owner and current talkSPORT host Simon Jordan also backed the move, saying “[Postecoglou] would provide a lot of things Jurgen Klopp has managed to be successful in…The charisma, the personality, the relatability, the style of play.”
Liverpool next manager odds
As good of a fit Postecoglou looks on paper, he’s not the only man in the running for the Liverpool job. According to the betting sites, ‘Big Ange’ isn’t even the most likely person to get the job. Most sites actually have Postecoglou as an outsider to get the job.
Bet365 soccer betting odds have Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso as the top candidate with $1.73 odds, followed by Roberto De Zerbi and Julian Nagelsmann at $9.00. Postecoglou is way down the list at $21.00. Fulham’s Marco Silva, Girona’s Michel, and Barcelona’s Xavi all have the same odds as Postecoglou.
