‘Thank you, Skunk’: Saints say goodbye
St Kilda Football Club announced on Monday that one of the club’s longest-tenured players would not be returning to the club.
“Tim Membrey will conclude his time at St Kilda, with the key forward informed he will not receive a playing contract for the upcoming season,” Saints revealed in a press release.
“On behalf of everyone here at St Kilda, we would like to sincerely thank Tim for his exceptional service over the past decade,” Executive General Manager of Football David Misson said.
“Tim has been the definition of a heart and soul player throughout his time at the club, giving his absolute all on and off the field.
“As we look to expose our young forwards to more senior opportunities moving into 2025, this was a tough but ultimately necessary decision to make.
“We wish Tim, wife Emily and children Wren and Beau all the best for whatever the future holds, and they leave forever part of the Saints,” Misson concluded.
Immaculate legacy at St Kilda
178 of Tim Membrey’s 179 career appearances came as a St Kilda player. The 30-year-old joined the Saints after one season at Sydney where he made one appearance for the Swans.
The ‘Pride of Traralgon’ scored 293 goals in his ten seasons with the club. He finishes his Saints career in 11th position on the club’s all-time goalkickers’ list. He was the club’s top goalkicker in three seasons (2016, 2017, 2019).
“The past ten years have been an incredible privilege,” Membrey said after he was released.
“I have loved being here at the club with the many teammates who I am proud to call friends by my side, and have felt supported by the Saints faithful every step of the way.
“I am excited for this new chapter with my family and will forever be grateful for their support across my career and into the future.”
Membrey scored 30 goals in 19 appearances for St Kilda in his final season at the club.
Collingwood move coming soon
With his time at St Kilda now over, reports claim that Membrey is set to move to Collingwood as a part of the club’s rebuild this offseason.
The Pies have already signed Harry Perryman agent from Greater Western Sydney and two-time All-Australian Dan Houston from Port Adelaide as free agents.
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it’s looking very likely that Membrey will be the Magpies’ next big signing.
Collingwood finished 9th last season and are making major moves to ensure their place in the 2025 finals season. The betting sites still have the Pies as big outsiders though. Most AFL betting odds have Collingwood as eight-best to win next year’s Grand Final.
